It's that time of the year!

The teams participating to the 96th edition are:

Group Cattini
- HC Davos
- Team Canada
- Straubing Tigers

Group Torriani
- HC Fribourg-Gottéron
- HC Dynamo Pardubice
- Kärpät Oulu

As usual, games will be available on YouTube, barring geoblocking (Central Europe, Russia, North America, as well as the Western Balkan region for the semis and final)

Pardubice could win this. We've been doing very well at the Spengler lately.

I don't know who Pardubice is sending but it's a damn nice roster. Very excited! Smejkal, Kaut, Cervus, Zboril, Hajek.. yes please!

Never cared about this tourney. Its basically the Swiss equivalent of the all star game. Its still part of the swiss hockey culture though and probably also important in introducing the game to new generations of fans. That doesnt mean its interesting to watch however, not for me at least.

Looking at the NL scoring list they actually might wanna think about introducing a team Finland in adition to team Canada…

As a swiss person i agree with you i don‘t care about the tournament too. However when i was i child it was basically the only hockey i was watching all year. As you stated i think the value of the tournament of introducing new people to the sport is immense. Only people who really know hockey in switzerland realize that the wjc is a lot more entertaining and meaningful. And there are junior players who‘s dream it is to play in the spengler cup one day so the value of the tournament for swiss hockey can‘t be denied. I don‘t like Davos playing with 8 foreigners last year which are almost DEL numbers tho… besides that the level is great. I mean that davos can build i rivalry with a team canada consisting of random players from europe shows that the tournament is popular amongst people.

FTR.. I think the tourney means exactly NOTHING. But I've always loved it. Part of the Xmas hockey experience. Jrs in evening, Spengler in morning. NHL even later in day. As an Oil and Czech fan.. it's possible for me to wakeup, watch the Extraliga club, then watch the Czech U20 and the Oilers play after that in one day. Magic!

Yes - part of the fabric now and our family always watches. I do enjoy seeing the different teams play we don't get to see much of unless they are in the Champions League.

cant wait to watch the spengler cup again so hoping team canada will win.. but gotta see how the other teams does as well.. same for the wjhc too... should be a great week or so of international hockey to watch and cheer! only wish for me is to see team ukraine (im ukrainian by heritage so) there for the spengler cup as I think there was a ukrainian team competing in that tourny many years back as recall...

I have been to a few since I moved to Europe. The Swiss love it and it has help grow the game there

Czechs go up 2-0... and now the game is dead. We are employing 1990 Swiss tactics here.lol Crowd is dead. Not much action. I may be the only one having a fun time right now.lol

What a comedy of errors for Parudbice. And it looks like Will got hurt. Disastrous turn of events.

That puck went through Pardubice players one after the other tell the Friborg Forward put up a great move to finish it... nice pass to him as well.

Bigger concern is that Will is down.

Will is not looking good at all... like season ending surgery not good. Speculating of course as I am not a doctor, I just play one online.lol

Frustrating.. they get a nice lead. Sit on it. Freak injury to starter. Now we have OT coming up. Will did go to bench and not cabin so that may be encouraging. Cervus next game please to yell at the boys a little.lol
