I know Benson's statistics, but I was talking about the NHL, no one knows how their NHL career will turn out, there are no guarantees and there is no magic ball. For me, they are both potential elite players in the NHL in the future, but this potential will still have to be realized and unleashed. The same example of Rossi versus Quinn is working in Quinn's favor so far, even though Rossi seems to have scored a lot of points in the OHL. So let's see how it all works out in the future.
I wonder if it's deflating almost knowing you'll be in that developmental league another full year after this or maybe the Sabres staff gave him some gym pointers to work on throughout the season that will better prepare him for next season.
I like to think it's the latter and he's not just taking a step back because it would be a hell of a time to sit back and watch the world go by and I doubt he's wired that way.

It could be anything, instructions from the Sabres and a shoulder injury or whatever. I have seen enough from Savoie in a few years to know that he is a very good prospect (and i'm not the only one). I liked his game before the season, when he was good in defense, on the forecheck, on the faceoff. I'm sure there will be a place for him in the team in 1-2 years. And I'm sure Adams won't trade him.

Agreed. I don't know how it will play out but my gut tells me Adams will keep the 23 1st and when he needs to liquidate funds, it will be future 1st rounders and maybe lower prospects that are out producing their draft status. Perhaps an underachieving high pick as well but that player is not obvious at this point. Then there's moveable roster players also.

Who knows, maybe he'll put together a package that proves me wrong.

Your issue is that Quinn far surpassed Rossi in goals. Last year the Ice moved Benson to center in place of Savoie, which is when I started posting my doubts about him. Now as a Sabres fan I fervently hope he's the next Briere, barring that Marchessault give me 25-35 goals a year. There's lots to like about Savoie but at the same time lots of red flags popping up. Still saying that, the last the last year + Benson has been much, much better

rarely a prospect tares it up d+1 thats a top 10 pick. If anything they have less to play for. Whats even worse is Savioe has to play in the WHL next year or NHL.

That should have motivated him to blow the doors off this year to make the NHL. So far it hasn't.

Which of course doesn't guarantee anything.

And they do complement one another well when they are together. Savoie is the faceoff guy of the tandem but he and Benson both think similarly and are often in position to help each other. As a PKing duo, it's impressive.

Saying Briere is style, not outcome. Which is why I hate direct comps because they become rote instead of the player as they are.

I was going for the undersized ppg+ 1C as my hopeful totally unrealistic outcome when I expect a 25+g 40a player due to his skill.

Talking PK, it'll be interesting to see if he can replicate that with Quinn or Peterka

I'd be interested to see if his faceoff prowess translates to the next level. He has some downright dominant games in the dub but I'm not well-steeped enough to know how that traditionally translates. I expect there will be some transition and learning.

This focus on CHL stats reminds me of the focus on Rossi and Quinn production in the Quinn thread. Some of our very strongly opinionated posters were very upset!

I’ll trust the scouting to scouts and let the worrying about stat-watching for others

The major difference is that we are talking about post-draft production and not pre-draft production.

The vast majority of people were happy with Savoie as the pick on draft night.

The challenge is that he has not taken a sizable step forward this season in his D+1 year. The good thing is that the Sabres can afford to be patient with Savoie. And I expect Adams to do just that.

I would be surprised if he moves any of Rosen, Savoie, Ostlund, or Kulich for immediate help this season.

At this point Savoie is the least I’m excited about. Not a knock against him, I’ve been very impressed with the other 3. Future looks bright

Yeah, if any asset is up for grabs, it's 23/24 1sts.

And we don't know the reason. Here, after all, they laid out his extended metric for this season, it seems to be in order. Worse partners? Does he have any tasks from Buffalo that hurt his stats? Shoulder still not fully recovered? Maybe he was ill with something before or during the season? One can only guess. But I don't doubt his skill or hockey IQ.

The problem is this. What aspects of his game have not taken a step forward? Or what aspects of his game have regressed?

Stats or production isn’t really an answer imo

Its the data people have access to. That makes it very legit to look at. It is not the make or break of anything, but it is an indicator......... versus say, blind faith that the Sabres got every pick right.

You're not actually making a point. Assess the player, their tendencies, their circumstance... Saying "not every player makes it" is true but uninformed and vague enough to be unremarkable.

Just because counting stats are the only thing you have made available to yourself, doesn't mean that's the end-all and certainly doesn't prove your assertion and frankly, with any hockey development knowledge, it's not an indicator of anything. You should do better in your wording and scope of player's motivations overall circumstances.

he still got this season and next to figure it out before he goes to the Amerks to transition to the pro game.
Maybe its really the shoulder thats hampering him atm

The post your replying to is fairly sympathetic to the idea that points aren’t everything. Is there a reason you’re jumping down his throat?
