I saw some of his first game and he looked good. Im expecting big things. Going the AHL was the best thing for Q I think cause it seems like he needs adjustment periods.

Was hoping the teams just went full youngsters and we got to see kupari and kaliyev who have been having solid seasons in the ahl.... maybe turcotte to get his feet wet.

I kinda wanted groulx from Anaheim to get a couple games, he’s earned it. Currently sits 3rd in rookie scoring in the ahl.... flys under the radar a bit but starting to look like he’s going to mold into a nhl player.

Byfield has looked solid.... rediculous how young he is still ... I think it’s good they are letting him get his feet wet as he should be a key part of the team next season

Same can be said for Zegras + Drysdale. Both of those players are whom you build around for the future.

He was reportedly with Gary Roberts last summer, so it's not like he'd be unfamiliar with the idea.

But thickness doesn't necessarily = strength. I remember seeing a rookie Wayne Simmonds at tip a king and he looked 150 soaking wet just hours before going out and beating the snot out of someone (I know you didn't mention how he 'looks' but all reports point to a work ethic fiend).

I forgot about his work with Gary Roberts last Summer, so thanks for the correction. I still imagine that having a taste of the NHL will help guide his training and having the money and facilities will help achieve better results this time, though. Regardless, my point was more about the mental preparation and feeling that he's already a part of the team and doesn't have to worry about where he'll play next year. As Kaner9 said, he seems to need adjustment periods, so he might get that out of the way now and start to feel comfortable and make friends with Kings players over the Summer.

He looks like he is wearing no equipment he is so thin. He has Kevin Durant body type if he fills out it's gonna be scary.

You're not fooling anyone. You're dying to see him with his shirt off, aren't you?

All night

For size scale, Lybushkin is 27 yo, 6'2", 210.

That's a teenager vs. a man strength veteran.

What kind of f***ing bulldozer is Byfield going to be

All night

Unfortunately, he was also leveled really hard in the corner on a clean hit from a smaller player and was slow to get up. I hate to bring that up, but the idea that he was manhandling men all night isn't entirely accurate. I loved seeing his protection of the puck and his confidence, but I didn't like seeing the big man go down so easily, either. Hopefully, some more muscle and awareness over time will help. I want him to be like Lindros, where guys that try to hit him just go bouncing off of him.

He did swat Garland like a bug, that made my night.

Even Kopitar gets crushed once in a while. Not really worried about an 18 year old getting his feet under him, just loving watching the development because I didn't expect him to be this physically advanced at this stage after watching him at the beginning of the year in the AHL.

The only thing I learned from this post is there is someone named Ilya Lybushkin playing in the NHL.

I learned that no one's allowed a positive post about Byfield without someone jumping in with a "well, actually"
It's him protecting the puck against a guy no one knows. We all know how good he will probably end up being but that is a random clip lol anyone can find a clip from any game of someone protecting the puck, he didn't even create anything off it he dumped it down low. If he fills out he's gonna be dominate.

Jordan Greenway is still filling out, and looks thin. Last couple of years it looked like he was starving. Not true of all players, but generally speaking, the really tall ones need more time to figure out that they have finally stopped growing.

Sure, but the point is, at the beginning of the year--go back to the beginning of this thread and that was one of the biggest criticisms; he's big but doesn't know how to use his size, he's low IQ and only scores off the rush. It's a small example of something he did a lot of and generated a chance just seconds later if the clip extended out--he could have had several points last night off cycle/strength plays, and had his first point taken away from winning a faceoff. It's growth. Some posters are here for that kind of discussion.

I hope there is a one year exception made so that 02 players who played a certain % of AHL games will be eligible to play in the league again next season. It would be good for Byfield to split the season next year between the two leagues but most likely he will graduate to the NHL full time next season.

Well, actually, positive posts are fine if they're honest and accurate. Suggesting that he was shrugging off opponents like in the clip "all night" simply wasn't either. I pointed that out as politely as I could, quoted only those two words to show that I was taking issue with only that part of the post and wouldn't have said anything, otherwise, so it's incorrect to suggest that you're not allowed to make positive posts about Byfield. That's just being dramatic and silly, especially since you jump in whenever someone has a negative thing to say about him. It could be said that no one's allowed a less than 100% positive post about Byfield around here without you having something to say about it, and you're rarely as polite as "well, actually." ;)

Laughed at the boldfaced, perfect illustration thanks

This is insane pedantry just for the sake of it and I think you know it.

Saying he got checked by a smaller player once as a counterexample is doing what you're accusing me of anyway.

He was effectively using his body all night, no not like in the clip, but to various strong degrees. The clip is an example of what he CAN and did do. You and @UnfinishedBusiness just make it a habit of being miserable and pissing all over any Kings prospects in any thread when people bring up positive news so this is no real surprise but come on, this is a really silly hill to die on.

-----

More from the coach:

"“There’s been a lot of areas that we’ve been impressed with, his ability to keep up with the pace of play for one,” McLellan said of Byfield, earlier today. “Faceoff circle has been up and down a little bit, I think he’s made some really poised plays with the puck. He’s come out of corners with it, he’s been able to escape some of the containment, he absorbs things really quick, he’s an inquisitive player. He asks some very valuable questions and he puts them into play right away, he’s not confused by direction. Those are all real positive signs for us.”"

I'm glad that you laughed, because you were meant to. ;)
You and @UnfinishedBusiness just make it a habit of being miserable and pissing all over any Kings prospects in any thread when people bring up positive news so this is no real surprise but Jesus Christ just once break the pattern and just shut up and let people enjoy nice things.

You have to know that that's not true. You've "liked" my posts literally dozens of times in the last two years. Also, how could you possibly know that I haven't "shut up and let people enjoy nice things"? You have no idea how many times, when I've thought that you were being a little too biased, that I've resisted the temptation to reply because it wasn't worth it and I like you enough not to pick at everything that you say. I thought that I needed to say something this one time and you're using it as confirmation that I post only negative things. I think that I deserve more credit than that.

You're trying to make this about me and it's not. I'm not "miserable" or down on any of the Kings prospects. You should know from the Byfield, Turcotte and Kaliyev threads that I'm at least cautiously optimistic about all of them. It's just that you're really high on them and anything short of high praise seems to make you indignant and angry, even when it's polite and fair. I think that it's fair to bring up that not every shift of Byfield's was as strong as in that clip, and you apparently agree, so it seems like you're just annoyed that I brought it up. Sorry if that felt like pissing on your praise, but I tried to do it politely, and if I waited until you weren't praising of Kings players to reply to you, I'd never have the chance. :)

Insecure, overbearing micro-managers kinda take the fun out of discussions, don't they? Even worse in the Kings forum.
