Lmao!

On one hand, he looks like the biggest dude on the ice.

On the other, he might be your 6'6" high school goalie friend who looks 250 but its' all pads

Yeah if it weren't for John Gibson, he'd have a goal or point or two already.

Damn, now those are some stats. He'll be in LA full time next year as our second line center. Don't be surprised if Kaliyev gets called up too.

He definitely had some jump tonight. You can tell if he needs to take over a game he will have the ability to do so. Just needs to bulk up. Skill wise, I was surprise to see his quickness on this level. Seems to be already at the NHL pace.

Starting from the WJC/AHL helped make the transition easier than going from junior to NHL camp/season which is what normally occurs. Being eased into the pro game at the AHL level has been very valuable

Man those Kings announcers were dying for him to score. They seem devastated when he didn’t score to tie it up at the end of the game:D

I like Byfield, think being tutored by Kopitar will be great for him. Kid will be a good one.

Gotta admit it would have been a good story, especially if he potted the one at the very end

Gibson made a fantastic save on his one-timer, that goes in on most other goalies on any other night

They were looking all night for parallels to Kopitar's debut where he went wide on Pronger for a goal. It didn't happen, but it was definitely the same buzz.

He looked like a legit center honestly. Gonna be a key piece going forward. Excited to see what he can do.

Right, I think people have been overlooking what work he's been doing defensively. Those faceoff numbers are baller. He did even that in the WJC and elsewhere too. And he just eats up so much size and space, he broke up quite a few plays last night that no other player would even have been close on. Having those kinds of offensive instincts with that size and speed is good for defending, too. Knowing he's at least looking to not be a liability has him looking better, naturally more comfortable at C than anyone else has (Vilardi, Kupari) in small samples obviously.

He looks so lanky out there, if you told me he was 185lbs, I'd totally believe you. But at 215, you'd think there's a tremendous amount of strength and muscle left to put on still, especially since he's young for his draft year and is still just 18.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was closer to 6'5 or something.

Yeah, it was way over the top, we have a very poor broadcasting team right now, tough for those of us who grew up with Bob Miller. In fairness to them though, you have to remember it's been a dozen years since the Kings had a truly elite prospect in the system and the team has 1 playoff win in 7 seasons so they are desperate for any kind of excitement.

I like Byfield, he looked the part of a solid #2 pick. He won't be McDavid, Matthews, MacKinnon level of top picks, but he has a chance to be in the next caliber, and there are some great players in that caliber.

Staying in the lineup as 2C again tonight for those of you that are wanting to see him.

The four game "Freeway Faceoff" aka the loser's bracket features Byfield, Zegras, Drysdale, other Kings/Ducks youngsters like Comtois, Terry, Steel, Bjornfot, Anderson, Vilardi, Anderson-Dolan, Andersson, etc.

There sure are - Barkov and Draisaitl come to mind immediately as big, super skilled pivots in their prime. I see a lot similarities in these two to what Byfield may eventually become. What's interesting to me is the overall skating, speed and physicality elements that Quinton has - something the two mentioned weren't particularly known for. He may not have the technical skills these two had (and have) but he makes up for it in many other ways.

Byfield has intangibles to his game that may allow him to get to that higher tier, whether its durability, "5-tool" ability or other motivations. That's the upside in his opportunity. Those doubting it I am sure are looking over their collective shoulders and saying, "I don't think he's that good...is he"?

He will be what he wants to be and for me that's what makes him a really unique prospect.

Byfield has been in step with each game. Solid defense and winning faceoffs. Kid has slick hands and has had some good looks. I think the 2cd line center spot is his to lose at next camp.

Yep, considering the team needs a f***ing exorcism, QB has been pretty great

Was hoping the teams just went full youngsters and we got to see kupari and kaliyev who have been having solid seasons in the ahl.... maybe turcotte to get his feet wet.

I kinda wanted groulx from Anaheim to get a couple games, he’s earned it. Currently sits 3rd in rookie scoring in the ahl.... flys under the radar a bit but starting to look like he’s going to mold into a nhl player.

Byfield has looked solid.... rediculous how young he is still ... I think it’s good they are letting him get his feet wet as he should be a key part of the team next season

Getting to play in the AHL was good for him. I think that he's being "rushed" a bit here, but there's not much that LA can do about it. While I would've liked to have seen him stay in the AHL and even start next season there, the latter is out of the question because it's either the NHL or back to the OHL. Considering that that's the choice, it makes sense to get his feet wet now so that he's at least more mentally prepared to permanently graduate to the NHL in the Fall. Maybe he'll also work out more in the Summer than he ever has before. It's not like he ever needed to until now, since his natural size was more than enough to dominate juniors.

He was reportedly with Gary Roberts last summer, so it's not like he'd be unfamiliar with the idea.

But thickness doesn't necessarily = strength. I remember seeing a rookie Wayne Simmonds at tip a king and he looked 150 soaking wet just hours before going out and beating the snot out of someone (I know you didn't mention how he 'looks' but all reports point to a work ethic fiend).

Kind of agree on the 'rush' side but as you point out the options are few. It's nice that he had the AHL because his play/confidence is already night and day (though still visibly with lots of room to grow in every manner) with the start of the year.

And as @Getz2noone points out it's ridiculous how big he is already, like noticeably the biggest dude on the ice even next to Kopitar and Getzlaf.
