I've said if Byfield hits his ceiling, he's going to be the best player in the draft. Even better than Laf, Stutzle, etc.

Surely, but even if not, he's trending towards being one heck of a player. I get the doubt pre-AHL.. I was one of them. But anyone who has watched his progression in the A can see the kid is special.

The kid has a big tool box that's for sure. He can hurt you by scoring in so many ways and when he fills out, he is simply just going to hurt you.

Byfield right now is tied for 20th in AHL scoring (with 15 other players) and is tied for 4th most points by a rookie in the AHL.

He's also tied for 173rd in points per game.

I'd say thats a good start.

Apparently he's going to play for the Kings on April 26th. From what I've read, he's creating a lot of chances and continues to improve.

Why haven't the Kings called him up yet? As an 18-year old he can physically match AHL vets and can outskill them too. He probably needs a year to physically mature (much like Draisaitl did) to stick in a full NHL season. He should play 3-4 NHL games this season to see how he can handle NHL speed.

Scored a goal tonight (so far) and probably would have another assist with a bit more luck.

He's playing in the AHL tomorrow then is expected to be called up.

So much nonsense about where he was in comparison to Stu and Laf,when most knew you could not have seen 3 different styles of players...A power center,a power winger and a skilled winger...All three are going to be good ,just people need to chill a little

Byfield's confidence has been soaring. That was one of his best games carrying the puck. You're seeing why he was drafted for his full game. Learning curve has gone from a struggling plus-minus player to a dominant player. Loved his game today, liked it for a while too. -- Wrobo

As expected, LA wants him to be a complete 200 ft. dominant center and will take the slow path with him which is fine. He's still extremely young and has some filling out to do but I think the sky is the limit for him.

QB Called up to LAK Taxi Squad. Hope he gets in to tonight's game, but his NHL debut is imminent.

Full version of @SFKingshomer 's quote above:

Wrobo talks Byfield on Eve of Call-up to Kings, Plus Thoughts on Turcotte and Kaliyev

"When we first started off with QB, there was a guy who was finding his routes at the pro game, he was finding his timing; the detail things like being a little bit heavier in battles, one hand on the stick in battles, as opposed to when he needed two. All these things still need work, and he is gonna have to keep figuring them out, but the learning curve has gone from a guy that struggled to [produce] points, his plus-minus was down there probably near the worst in the league, and now he’s a dominant player. I loved his game today and I’ve liked it for a while now. He was outstanding. He still needs to work on some things too. He gets into the scoring zones, we talked to him a lot about his needing an assassin’s mentality in the scoring zones. Last night, he passed up two 2-on-1 opportunities and I thought he should have driven both of them or tried to pipe it himself. We’re still working through a couple of things there, but a tremendous young man and couldn’t be happier for him. "

When Byfield ( born Aug 19 , 2002 ) makes his NHL debut he will still be younger than when
Alexis Lafreniere ( born Oct 11 , 2001 - 312 days older ) and

Tim Stutzle ( born Jan 15 , 2002 - 218 days ) made theirs

Oh dear. I can see it now. Not necessarily from you, but we're going to be hearing one of the following two narratives for the next 6 months...

If he scores: "Byfield is ahead of Laf and Timmy because he scored his first NHL point(s) at a younger age!"

If he struggles: "Yeah, but he's younger than Laf and Timmy, so it doesn't mean anything."

I'm thinking his game won't be that much like Kopitar's "best and strongest two-way center in league" game. He looks more like a Joe Thornton playmaker but can easily add 30 goals to the assist total/passing ability. Like a Joe Sakic except even bigger and harder to knock off of the puck.

Hmm so like a Marleau, Thornton hybrid
