People act like he's one of the worst FOA picks in awhile. He's not.

Assuming Matthews goes 1 OA this draft, the last 10 1 OAs will be:

2016 - Matthews
2015 - McDavid
2014 - Ekblad
2013 - MacKinnon
2012 - Yakupov
2011 - Nugent-Hopkins
2010 - Hall
2009 - Tavares
2008 - Stamkos
2007 - Kane

Patrick is a late birthday, he is missing this year's draft by a few days. Physically, he's a pretty big kid, so the fact he's born later in the year doesn't appear to put him at any disadvantage relative to his birth year.

There are also other late birthdays on that list (Matthews, Yakupov, Hall, Tavares, Kane).

Things could change next year, but from what Patrick has shown so far (and keeping in mind he's a late '98), he looks, so far, as one of the weaker players in the last decade, relative to other 1 OAs.

He is heating up in 2016. 13 goals in 16 games. And in Feb, 5 goals in 3 games. Looks like he's found an extra gear

If he keeps playing like last night, the stats will start mirroring the dominant game he's playing. Was totally controlling the play with his size, skating, and puck protection. Great release, works hard, dropped the mitts. Looks like the big Center that gets western conference GMs drooling.

If they were in the same draft, who would you prefer, Dubois or Patrick? They are only about three months apart in age, and are pretty similar players in skill-sets.

How I feel about his game. Watching him I see nothing special at all.

I expected a little more detail than that. For such a strong statement I'd assume you've watched him a lot and could provide a good explanation. IMO he has everything you want in an NHL player.

7 goals and 2 assists in last 4 games.

Plus, unlike the thread title says, he is definitely a C.

I've seen him play a couple of times now and I can somewhat understand why some people are left wanting more. He doesn't play a flashy game like past top end offensive picks so some people are left wondering where is the wow factor.

That is not to say he isn't an exceptional player because he is a terrific talent. He just plays an extremely good all around game based more on smarts, anticipation and positioning. I have been very impressed with him in the games that I have seen. He also has a lethal shot and exceptional playmaking which allows him to capitalize on his smarts. I would gladly take him on the Jets, I think he is the type of well rounded centre that you win with.

He barely misses the draft for 2016 but if he was a part of it, does he make the top3?

He has 0.618 Primary Even Strength Points/Game in the WHL.
Which is higher than Tkachuk, McLeod, Nylander whom all play in a higher scoring league.
IMO he could very well challenge the Finns for 2nd to 4th overall.
While the Finns look great scouts and teams would likely be more familiar with Patrick's game. It's not as high end offensively compared to the Finns but he would be a very safe pick to be a top 6 two-way center and future captain. IMO he could very well go 2nd overall this year behind Matthews. It all depends on what kind of pieces you need when building your team. Laine could be a huge offensive talent but may never be the two-way talent Patrick is. Plus Patrick is a center and many teams covet centers over wingers when the skillset is close.

i disagree this guy could've gone fifth after matthews, finns, chyhcrun

He is scoring even strength goals per game at a faster pace than any other player entering the WHL as a 16 year old in recent history, Ederle, Nugent Hopkins, Schenn, Sam reinhart, all behind him, and the scary part is, he adds the Toews type complete game with it.

Another goal and assist tonight. Up to 7th in league scoring. 9 goals and 6 assists in 6 games so far in Feb. Seven of those goals were at even strength, which is impressive because it's so hard to score goals even strength in the WHL.
