He reminds me of Getzlaf. Very dominant player, but he needs to use his shot more.

This is basically what comes to mind for me as well. He can really rip it with the release he has. I'm sure he will learn to do so as he gains more experience.

If only he was 4 days older we would be talking about him in this draft

Yeah but the 2017 WHL class is going to be great. Popugaev, Patrick, Mattheos, Yamamoto, Valimaki, Foote, and so many other exciting prospects. I think Patrick will be the best though.

anyone seen this kid play?

Like the soon to be 2016 1st pick Austin Mathews, missed his draft by 4 days, (overager in the 2017) He is projected to be one of the top prospects in the 2017 draft. If he was born 4 days earlier where do we rank this kid?

I'd have him 3rd behind Matthews and Laine.

I started a thread not long ago comparing Pierre-Luc Dubois with Nolan Patrick: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?p=110146647

It seems that people thought the gap between Dubois and Patrick were pretty close and that Patrick probably had the slightly higher upside. If Dubois is being rated as only a top 10 pick for this year's draft then I'd have to think Patrick is around the same, maybe top 5, if eligible this season. Either that or Patrick is a top 3 pick for this season's draft and people are selling Dubois short this year.

any chance he follows the Matthews route and goes pro in Switzerland?

Why would he do that? Matthews had to make a choice as to where he wanted to go because he needed to choose, he was moving from one league to another. Patrick doesn't have to make any type of decisions because he's been in the CHL 2 years already, so he just continues on his path.

money?

Is Nolan Patrick being talked about as being on the same level as Eichel and Matthews? Can he be that #1 2 way center like Kopitar or Toews? Or is he more like a Strome/Carter type offensive center?

2016 has Matthews as that invaluable #1 2 way cup winning center.
Does 2017 have that as well in Patrick or no? Do teams have a legit chance 2 years in a row at getting that type of player from the draft or no?

I don't think Patrick is close to Eichel or Matthews. I think if he goes #1 overall he would be an average to slightly below average #1 overall pick.

I'd love to see Patrick go to Buffalo. I hope they can land Pulju, Laine or Tkachuk too.

Time will tell, but I don't think he's close to McDavid, Eichel, or Matthews. All those players are a couple levels ahead offensively. But what Patrick lacks, he brings in other areas. Patrick is already very physically mature for his age and will get even strong (might be even better than Matthews). Along with this, he has a superb defensive side of the game, which is better than any of the three I've listed. He was getting some good PK time as a 16 year old last year and didn't even come close in terms of looking out of place. He's also a strong skater and has been able to put up PPG status as a underager, though its on a strong team.

I would say now he's really similar to Aleksander Barkov when it comes to potential. Which isn't bad, if MacKinnon didn't exist, there were very strong rumours Avs would have taken Barkov 1st overall. But again a lot of things can change, he could get even better next year or stagnate leading to Tilander to go 1st overall.

In live viewings of Patrick, it is easy to see the maturity of this player - physically and how he thinks and plays a 200 foot game. Closest comp I see is Toews. Right from his debut games as a 15 year old, Patrick has shown a mature, responsible game and ability to put up points.

May lack the high end point production of players like Eichel but the sum package like Toews are cornerstones for building winning franchises. Like this player a lot. He would be top three in this draft if available.

Very exciting! As a leafs fan it is clear to see we are in desperate need of that top 2 way center. Nice to get two cracks at one of them, this year and next.

Patrick play centre 99% of the time. Lately, his wingers are Hawryluk and coulter. If you get a chance, see his laser water bottle shot to tie red deer with 4 minutes left, then his unbelievable Peter forsberg like pass to coulter to win the game....check the wheat king or red deer whl site for highlights tomorrow.

Two impressive plays deep in a game that turned a loss into a victory .

Pressure point and he answered the bell , he was the difference . That Forsberg pass was magic .

Kelly McCrimmon likens him to Joe Thornton fwiw.

Watch the red deer goalie on Patrick's pass, he was totally expecting Patrick to continue behind the net, the goalie didn't know Patrick had passed it behind his back, total confusion is seen in his body language, very unexpected pass!! Play of the week?
