It's concerning that the draft -1 hype on Sam Reinhart is higher than the slated #1 pick

Not sure what you're talking about, but the Patrick hype has been going on for 3 years already even going back to midget.....at least in these parts. Most hockey types have been watching him so long they've probably moved on to their next picks.

have some game highlights from last night
the game was cut short in half due to fogginess. (has this happened before?)
was good at FO on both games
used his body very well. just looked real strong on his feet
great penalty kill efforts

The Oilers and I believe Bruins(may have been Flyers) had a playoff game delayed/cancelled due to fog in the 80's.
I'm not as huge a Patrick fan as most it appears but i'll watch him again this season and maybe my opinion changes.

It's the Bruins. I have the next cup winning game on VHS still lol. Gretzky's last game as an Oiler....

Patrick only missed the 2016 draft by 4 days. Would have been interesting where he would have gone had he landed on the other side of that draft. Looking fwd to seeing him put up a 1st overall pick season. He has the size and all the necessary tools to be a very good one.

I have a feeling he puts up 100+ again. I bet Mattheos puts up a big season this year too. WHL is looking really strong this year which is why the eastern pundits are calling it a weak draft I think. It has to be a weak draft for the WHL to have the top guys right? :help:
Patrick, Mattheos, Yamamoto, Rasmussen, Valimaki and Foote should all put up big seasons this year.

I think He should be close to 100 again. in his last 2 months in the WHL last year. He finished the year with 20 points in 9 games in March, and 46 points in his 22 games (Feb and Mar) last season. That is a 2.09 PPG at 17 and 6 months and on. Now that he will be 18 for the entire year. I think we can expect the same level of play. The question is how good will Brandon be this season? I look fwd to seeing a good strong year form him.

If they get Provorov back I think they could make a really solid run. Even having Clague back would help them out. They were missing both when I saw them play and still dominated the game for 2 and 3/4 periods. Him and Mattheos show strong chemistry together.

Does he have a shot at making Canada WJHC ?

Being on the older side I think he has a shot. Strome and Marner probably won't return and Quenneville, Chartier, Perlini and Point are all graduated.
I'd have him on the team.

Well according to tsn, he would have gone fifth.

The consensus amongst scouts surveyed by TSN is that Patrick wouldn't have displaced any of the top four picks in last year's draft. Depending on the scout, they retroactively rank Patrick anywhere between No. 5 and 10, based on his 2015-16 season.

I can almost guarantee he would've gone third to Columbus....even a chance he goes second to Winnipeg. I don't really understand how any of these scouts could put Dubois ahead of him. In any case we are talking about a group of 5 outstanding prospects.

It's even weirder that BMac says Mittlestadt projects as a 2nd line Center ranked 11th. Yet Patrick ranks 1st and is also a 2nd line center.
I feel like maybe they are trying to downplay things like they always do and then when Patrick puts up a huge season like he should they will hype it like they knew all along he was a great talent.

It's interesting... some of those comments by Mckenzie's scouts. If you ask me to take a guess, I think Patrick would have been in the group of Puljujarvi, Debois for 3rd overall. I think he would have to be ahead of Tkachuk, Nylander, Juolevi, Keller grouping.

This is why I want to see how he does this year. When you have a late birthdays, it is always natural to ask or be curious where they would have gone had he been born a few days earlier. I think we will see this year, how Patrick may or may not stack up to other previous #1 picks. Right now, I am not sure. Except I know he has size, he plays C, and he has all the necessary tools to be a very good one in the NHL.

Another goal and two assists so far for Patrick against Red Deer. That puts him at 6 points in 3 games so far. That Brandon PP is lethal.

His goal was amazing as it was basically 1-on-5 and Patrick came out on top. Pushed the opening faceoff ahead, dumped it in and retrieved it then batted his own rebound out of mid air in for the goal.

The kid is a one man army. ES, PP or PK. He's just so damn dominant against everyone in this league.

2.5 games! Since the one game was suspended midway through due to fog.

It's weird to say since he's been consensus 1st overall in this draft for nearly 2 seasons but I think Patrick is pretty underrated. He's going to be a star, a franchise build around 1st line centre. Maybe people just label him as weaker since he's not on the same level as Connor McDavid (hint: no one is). And I agree it does seem like a lot of people/media are trying to downplay him as a 1st overall pick.

Probably because the last two first overalls were insanely good, so this draft is looking pedestrian in comparison.
This draft looks bad for a bunch of reasons. Particularly the fact when McKenzie polled scouts only 2 players were in everyones top 10, and it wasn't due to depth.

I'd say its the fact in the last 4 years there have been 4 center prospects people that people think were better prospects entering their draft year (Mackinnon, Matthews, Eichel and McDavid) and all followed it up with amazing draft years has hurt the hype around Patrick. But as pointed out, he keeps scoring like this on a team that lost a bunch of players, and has a strong WJC, people will be raving about him come draft lottery. Remember, P. Kane and Ekblad were supposed to be weak #1's, they don't all end up like Yak and Stefan, or in the middle ground like RNH.

He's a very good prospect. But I bought this up in the late birthday thread. Patrick is picking up where he left off last year. There is no doubt he is benefitting from his age and experience being a late birthday this draft. Doesn't make him a lesser prospect, but he has a decided advantage this season.

Nolan Patrick's stats last season. I would surmise he will be closer to 2PPG than 1PPG as he ended the year at last season.

September 2GP 0P
October 13GP 21P
November 10GP 6P
December 12 GP 16P (1.16 Sept-Dec first 37 games)
January 13GP 13P
February 13GP 26P
March 9GP 20P (1.69PPG Jan-Mar Last 46 games)
