So, not a superstar, but really good 1st liner?

What would you call Toews? Because that's Patrick's upside, Toews-like two way game, with Thornton size and the best goal scorer to come out of the WHL in the last decade, that is his ceiling. Doesn't have speed like mcdavid, but better speed than Tavares had in junior
People ask how he compares to Nugent Hopkins, well, Patrick had 50% more even strength goals than Nugent Hopkins did after they both played 150 games. And Patrick is way bigger and has more complete two way game Patrick is the perfect center for the Western Conference, big and strong.

Depending on how he performs next year, it looks like he has the kind of game that can help him jump right into the NHL

He is slowing down, only 1 goal and 3 assists in two games this weekend so far. Third game in three days this afternoon coming up

Two goals and ten assists in four games in Feb. 5th in league scoring and all as a 17 year old

Heck of a player and a 1st overall worthy guy looking at the 2017 crop, but he's definitely a step below recent 1st overall picks. He'd be in the mix with the two Finns if he was eligible in 2016 but not convinced he's better than either of them.

Good bloodlines, size and smarts.

Think of a guy like Lecavalier when it comes to a comparison.

I think he likely sits just below the Matthews, Eichel level at this point. But we have to keep in mind he's still a year away from his draft season and will likely break 100 points in the Dub as a 17 year old. At THIS point he is just below them. He likely takes another step next year.

Mackinnon put up 78 points in his draft -1 in the Q.
Patrick is likely to crack 100 pts in his draft -1 in the Dub.
Take that for what you think its worth.

It really isn't worth anything since Mackinnon's "draft -1" season was his U17 rookie year in the Q while Patrick's "draft -1" season was his U18 sophomore year.

In Mackinnon's rookie year, he had 78 points in 58 games (1.38 PPG) while Patrick had 56 points in 55 games (1.02 PPG).

In Mackinnon's second year in junior, he had 75 points in 45 games (1.70 ppg). Patrick currently has 94 points in 67 games (1.40 ppg).

Note that Mackinnon was born September 1, while Patrick was born September 19, so there's no meaningful difference in their ages during each season.

So possibly putting up 100 points in his draft -1 in the lowest scoring CHL league is worth nothing because he's an early birthday?
Well I guess Matthews really isnt that good either. Better let the scouts and all 30 NHL teams know they are making a mistake.
Your dislike for Patrick is hilarious.

I don't dislike Patrick at all nor have I ever said he isn't a good player. Nice strawman, though.

Your overreaction is what's hilarious.

I was merely pointing out that you were being quite manipulative attempting to draw a parallel between Mackinnon's statistics as a 16 year old rookie and Patrick's statistics as a 17 year old in his second year of junior.

Patrick's "draft year -1" statistics are similar to Taylor Hall's "draft year -1" statistics - and it's probably a better comparison because both were in their second year of junior during their "draft year -1".

I don't really see the dislike here from UWT, what he said is entirely true, and the year age difference is pretty important here when you make a comparison between Patrick and Mackinnon.
When it comes to Matthews, we can compare him with Jack Eichel and their USNTDP numbers since both have similar birthdays (September vs October births). Whereas MacKinnon is literally a year younger than where Patrick is through his current draft-1 year.

So then who do we have that we can compare him to?
