I like even strength goals comparison as an indicator how strong a player is
Getzlaffs first 150 WHL games he scored 23 even strength goals
Patrick's first 149 WHL games has scored 54 even strength goals

Patrick's production is fairly similar to Reinhart's, except Reinhart played over the same period for an offensively anemic team, while Patrick has played for the top scoring team in the league.

The WHL is lower scoring, but I think you'd find that most of those players that I've named and he will inevitably be compared to scored more in relation to their competition than Patrick does to his. Patrick's not even distancing himself from Yamamoto in terms of 2017 draft eligible WHL scorers in terms of PPG. Thats not to diminish him as a prospect since scoring isn't everything, but Patrick doesn't seem to be in the mold of some of these #1 overall picks like Crosby, McDavid, Stamkos, Tavaraes, MacKinnon when it comes to scoring. Maybe his offensive ceiling is comparable to that of RNH who was #1 overall out of the WHL?

I think he's a way ahead of RNH and Yamamoto, maybe people are under estimating Patrick's goal scoring prowess)
Patrick has 54 even strength goals in his first 149 games (0.362 ES goals per game)
RNH had 37 even strength in his first 150 games (0.247 ES goals per game)
Yamamoto only has 24 even strength goals in 124 games (0.194 ES goals per game)

So Patrick is scoring ES goals at nearly double the rate of Yamamoto, he's A lot bigger and better defensively

I don't believe people should be comparing Nolan or rnh any other top pick to yamamoto. Yes, yamamoto is talented, but he is also 5'8, and tiny players tend to put up big numbers in junior, and often are not even picked until late in the first/2nd. Whereas large players like Nolan (6'3) often put up bigger numbers at a later age.

See Jeremy bracco

His whole game? Sure, who said otherwise? I'm talking about purely offensively. He doesn't seem to have that incredible offensive ability that the likes of Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares, MacKinnon, McDavid had as CHL centers who went #1 overall in the NHL draft.

I don't think there were any comparisons to who's a better player, just about the offensive numbers they are putting up.

Yep, and I'm saying don't compare their offensively numbers.

Bracco had numbers similar to eichel. Tiny players produce. Doesn't make them good comparables.

Thing was reinhart was the focal point of his team and was given lots of ice time, Patrick has had to share time with all the other talent on the team, on the flip side Patrick has had more talented team mates
Anyway, reinhart scored 45 even strength goals in his first 150 games, compared to Patrick's 54 in 149.

Maybe a good way to look at Patrick's production is to compare him to other players on the high scoring WKs these last three years
Patrick 54 goals
Hawryluk 44 ES goals in 150 games (2nd round pick)
J Quennville 32 goals (1st round pick)
Shmyr 32 goals (undrafted)
Duke 31 goals (5th round pick)
Mcgauley 23 goals (signed by Washington before his 20 year old season)

Interesting to see the elite scoring from some of the OHL guys.
Hall and Tavares both had 70 ES goals in 150 games (.47 ES gpg)
Stamkos 59 in 137 (.43gpg)
Mcdavid 57 (.38 gpg)
Sequin 54 in 144 (.375 gpg)
Kadri 27 (.18 gpg)

Would have been good to see what Toews would have scored in the WHL
So Patrick is showing better ES gpg in 150 games than anyone else in the dub starting at 16 years old. He has the size of Getzlaf/Thornton, the defensive abilities and game awareness potential of Toews. Can he continue that potential, is that enough to be #1 overall? We will see I guess!! I'd bet the house he will be somewhere in the top 3......

Some people just really can't admit this kid could/will be that good.
I've watched him many many times and every time I see him play you can just tell he has everything a team will want in a first line two-way center. There isn't a tool he doesn't have and if he puts it all together on a decent enough team he will be very successful.
He's the kind of kid that will likely never win a Rocket or a Ross like the Crosby's, Stamkos, Tavares or McDavids of the league but will probably be a nightmare match up like the Kopitars, Bergerons and Toews of the league. Guys that tend to be able to elevate their game in the playoffs and score clutch goals and win championships.

I tried searching some of his highlights on youtube, and all I get is 2 gay lovers 'Nolan and Patrick' haha

Nice post. Sums up my thoughts on him as a player. Would love to have him on the Jets.

Unreal player

So well rounded out there at a young age. His 1 goal 4 assist game the other night was great. His strengths shine through every time hes on the ice. Great skater. Good hands , speed, vision, hockey sense, defensive game. The whole package. Great player. If i was any nhl team id be looking at next years draft and figuring out any way possible to get into position to draft him.

Nolan Patrick just reached 150 games total in the WHL. Here is how he stacks up to other players who have started in the WHL as 15 and 16 year olds regarding total Even Strength goals in their first 150 games. As you can see, he has blown away everyone, including high first round picks such as Getzlaf, reinhart, and Nugent Hopkins.
The nice thing about Patrick is not only can he score, he's big, and, he plays a responsible two game like Toews. Pretty sure he will be a top three pick!!

This kid is the real deal. Will be hitting up another game this weekend everytime I get the chance to see him play I take it. Could you imagine if he improves on this season even more next year? He's already looking like one of the more dominant players in the league.

Who is really challenging him for 1st overall next year?

Maxime Comtois. But Patrick is clearly favorite due to size, goalscoring & 2 way play. I will say Comtois' current 1st season in the Q is nearly identical to Patrick's season last year so a lot fan change from now to the 2017 draft day.

Liljegren

Liljegren looks good but I hardly doubt he challenges Patrick for 1st overall. There would have to be an Ekblad level defencemen on the board to challenge Patrick at this point.
Camtois is looking pretty good but again with Patrick putting up the points he is this year and his size it will be tough. And if he continues to put up similar or better next year I don't think anyone really stands a chance. There are a few dark horses that if they hit some growth spurts and start really producing could rise to challenge Patrick but at this point he stands heads and shoulders above anyone else in his class by quite a bit.
