Somewhat off-topic but fun fact: I had my wedding last night and had a farewell brunch this morning with out of towners at the Marriott at the HarborCenter. I saw Jiri Kulich on the phone and got to meet Noah Ostlund. He was super nice - a little shy and not confident in his English. I was able to grab a quick pic with him though!
Hope the wife doesn't mind about those pics up on the mantle instead of her.

Glad at least 1 memorable thing happened at your wedding.

(Congrats, by the way!)

It's killing me that I can't watch these u18s somewhere. Really want to see him, and Kulich for that matter, in an environment it sounds like they both shined

Welcome to content strikes.

If you find 'em, PM me. I was wondering if the IIHF website has them cached on YT but I don't currently have a VPN client.

The bizarre part to me is its not like they've been re-aired. If the NHL network was going to replay them or something, I get it, but they haven't as far as I know. Are they just going to sit on the rights and not ever use them until they need to fill 2 hours in 2026 and they do a throwback game?

I have most of them on my Fubo DVR, but they are often chopped up because their system doesn't automatically tape to the end of an event - it's all to the end of the time scheduled, so regularly I have half the third period and then... nothing.

Swedens final and semi is still up at svtplay but I think you will need a swedish vpn

edit: Can confirm, changed mine to the US and it no longer worked.

I opened Opera, and it's built in VPN randomly assigned me to a city that happens to be in Sweden. What are the odds? Time to buy a lottery ticket

Yeah, just watched the gold game again (dvr), and the bronze. I somehow didn’t remember that Kulich played wing for Czechia. Anyway, Ostlund was actually very quiet this game. He got absolutely worked my McGroarty a few times. And Lane Hutson twisted him up like a pretzel with some slick skating. He had a completely absurd goal. But otherwise, he just played solid. Smart play after smart play. Notably, he was constantly applying pressure way down low in the D zone. It’s absurd how many times he was behind his own net. Usually “200ft player” means a forward that actually plays defense, but for Noah, it was literally on many, if not most shifts.

Addendum: note that this was done in a gold medal game with a short bench. I would not be surprised if Ostlund skated 24 minutes this game, up and down the ice without every looking gassed. If nothing else, this kid has got endurance for days.

He played nearly 27 minutes, actually, imagine he'd play more without his only penalties of the tournament(3). Some of his stats from the GMG:

It seems the only thing going against this kid is his size (weight/muscle wise) and some HFSabres users. The first is easy to correct with the proper meal plan and adding muscle. The 2nd is harder since lines have been drawn but if Rosen and this kid work out, many crows will die for a feast around here.

I don't think anyone has problems picking Rosen. I think the problem rise is our goalie issues. We passed on 2 goalie prospects that are probably the best in the last few years for Rosen. Cossa or Walstadt would probably be our 2nd/3rd best prospect and ready to join the team in 2-3 yrs. Instead we hope Levi or Portillo sign which seems unlikely at this point and end up in goalie purgatory.

It’s not unlikely at all that Levi signs. No one thinks he is going back again after this year. It would be a stunning turn of events if he wasn’t signed at the end of his college season this year.

Again this myth about college guys who don't sign a contract. This happens very rarely, especially in Buffalo.

It’s happened once, ever with a player we drafted.
Cal Peterson and Johnson are both recent examples. Its rare but it does happen. You know how coveted Levi would be with the goalie situation in the NHL right now? He could literally pick and choose the place he wants to go to.

Cal Peterson is the only Sabres draftee who has ever fled to UFA from college. Speculation aside, Johnson hasn’t done anything yet. On the contrary, he’s already confirmed for Prospect Camp.

Johnson might be signing with us in less than a week.

What? Why are you lying? The only one was Cal Petersen and Murray didn't pay any attention to him at the time. Ryan Johnson didn't sign a contract and left for UFA? No.

Nashville board is stoked we took Ostlund. Their board is ecstatic . Nothing against Ostlund but Kemmel was a consensus top 10 pick that was gifted to us at pick 16. I hope the best for Ostlund and that Adams is right.
