Adams does not have a track record of bad drafting at all. You can’t blame him for people who aren’t him.

Quinn people were mad and he went off
Trading up for Peterka was absolutely correct
Power was a gimme
Bloom and Nadeau have outperformed their picks by a hilarious degree

People are pissed about Rosen who had an injured year in a league he didn’t get good usage or minutes in that was ranked right around where they took him and was seen as a long term guy taken because he has top end skill. Thats what this is. Bringing up Nylander as if that has anything to do with Adams? What? Do I get to credit Adams for taking Ryan Miller in the 5th? He had an equal amount to do with it.

And for the millionth time…OSTLUND WASNT EVEN AN OFF THE BOARD PICK.

Jesus guy is ranked between 10 and 25 in one of the most erratic classes and you lose your shit at 16?

Maybe take a break from talking about him and go watch him.
Agree with you on this so hope this xontinues :)

Djurgardens has become one of the best prospect development clubs in Europe. Centre Noah Ostlund is one of four prospects who could go in the first round. He spent the majority of his season in the J20 league. Ostlund put up nine goals and 33 assists for 42 points in 32 games. He also put up five goals and two assists for seven points in five playoff games. Ostlund led the league in playoff goals and Djurgardens fell in the J20 Final. He joined the J18 team for the playoffs as well. Ostlund picked up two goals and seven points in four games, helping the Djurgardens affiliate to the J18 Championship. Ostlund also had a call-up to the SHL, but had trouble getting consistent ice time. He played 11 games but did not record a point.

Just a note but it's actually "Djurgarden", not "Djurgardens".

This is not another rosen pick ?

Is he good ? Not rosen bust ?
rosen is softish and skilled. ostlund is hardworking, skilled and good defensivly.

also why are you even calling rosen a bust, the guy is only 19 years old wtf

Craig Button's Analysis

"No flash but strong substance in his game. Smart with and without the puck. His understanding of situations and how to maximize them for gain is top notch."

Projection: Second/Third Line, Two-Way Centre
Comparable: Mikael Backlund
mikael backlund is spot on

This video of Lekkerimaki's shifts in the u18 championship game is also an Ostlund shift video, for obvious reasons. Ostlund with a couple nice goals in a big game.

There is a shift late in the video that is the backhand, shelf goal against the Swiss that may be the moment @Der Jaeger contemplated donating a kidney to him too. He turns someone into a pretzel and finishes in tight, just eye-popping.
I had two kidneys, and am currently fine with just one.

Though no one ever told me what they did with the kidney I sent to Ostlund….

His highlight tapes on YouTube are pretty incredible. I’m not sure where ‘no flash’ comes from, he looks very flashy to me. He just makes some plays that even on tv or on NHL 22 you just don’t see there, or couldn’t imagine or draw up. The defenders certainly don’t see it coming. The fact that he’s reliable defensively too is a great bonus.

The performance at the U18 probably should be considered more than it may be. The US team was stacked with players many of you wanted to draft instead of him. Ultimately, Sweden beats USA and that Ohgren/Ostlund/lekkerimaki line was the main reason. It probably could be argued that Ostlund was the main driver of that lines success too, setting up teammates with golden opportunities. The eye test certainly backs up the results of that tourney.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if we had him ranked top 10 and above Nazar.

They kept repeating it on the draft broadcast…they said it at least four times…he makes everyone on the ice better. Both his wingers were drafted in the top 20...and everyone will tell you he was the guy driving the line.

So many complaints in this thread (ignoring the poster who has made it clear he just hates Swedes to an unbelievable degree) don’t even make sense.

Hes a highly intelligent, elite passing, well skating, ultra competitive, defensively responsible center. He needs to add weight so he can play more physical in the nhl…but he drives the middle now in a men’s league so his mentality is already right. And kids fill out. He‘s not going to be a big goal scorer but he’s going to be a great goal creator.

Thats who he is. Comparisons to Rosen or Nylander or Girgensons…I dont even know what to do with these things. They’re lazy and ridiculous.

Makes you wonder if the Sabres had secured that 7OA pick, whether they would have ended up with the same players.
Forton was very forthcoming about the draft. I don't think he would have left out that they got both of the guys they were zeroed in on at #9.

Personally, I am very excited about Ostlund. He is the prospect not currently with the Sabres that I am most looking forward to following now. Superstar potential.

Somewhat off-topic but fun fact: I had my wedding last night and had a farewell brunch this morning with out of towners at the Marriott at the HarborCenter. I saw Jiri Kulich on the phone and got to meet Noah Ostlund. He was super nice - a little shy and not confident in his English. I was able to grab a quick pic with him though!

You may want to check on the bridesmaids to make sure none of them have been swept up in the magnetism of Kulich's jawline.
