As a Leafs fan I wish he'd fall into the 20's, but I've had him pegged around 10-12 on my rankings and I'm sure there'll be a team that scoops him up by 15ish. The way he combines these levels of skill, creativity, and work ethic has him destined to be a second-line center at the bare minimum. The whole package screams top-6 potential. Every viewing I've had he's involved and driving play for his line. If he were any bigger he'd be a top-10 lock. Plays the middle well, for 200 ft too, just will be a matter of translating it in a heavier faster game as a somewhat undersized lad. One of my favourites this year

I'm very curious to see where the 3 Djurgarden draft eligible forwards end up going in the draft.

Ohgren and Lekkerimakki are gonna go ahead of Ostlund but Ostlund could ends up the best player of the 3.

He's smart and he's silky smooth. He does all of the things for those two and its getting unnoticed but maybe now on the U18 stage people will see it.

He is my favourite of the three. Could be Barzal like steal from this year's draft. Brain of the line. Does lot of nifty small plays as well. Just too much to like for me to leave him outside of first round. In my books, he should be around top 20 pick asily in this years draft while Öhgren and Lekkerinmäki probably around top 10-15.

It's obvious, I think everyone should be able to see that he's the best player if they tune in.

The only reason he might go later is if teams don't think he'll be able to handle the size in the NHL.

How has he looked at the SHL level? I don't care if he hasn't scored yet, I'm sure he hasn't gotten much opportunity, but how does he handle contact? He needs to become super elusive or it will be a short NHL career.

Eh…no. Early to mid 2nd? Yes. This is a guy that I’ll trust the scouting consensus on.
Ostlunds had a really strong tournament been swedens 2nd best player behind lekkermakki and having humongous final against the USA. Hes gonna at least go low 20s. He's very shifty and seems to give players great fakes. Really jumped up my board.

If there are 32-40 better players than him than the NHL is about to enter an era of big time offensive explosion. I find it hard to believe, especially being a C, he won't go top 15-20.

You are totally overrating his skill from a single clip.

Pros: Agile, good passer and stickhandler, sound defensively in j20.
Cons: He’s small, weak physically, not all that fast. Definitely pass first.

He screams future AAAA level player to me. Too good for the minors but not good enough for full time NHL duty.

Hes not a slouch on his skates and he's clearly outplayed cooley so far. No way is a 4a player.

Or you're totally underrating him?

He's slim yes, he hit a growth spurt and his body never quite hung on after that, expect him to gain some weight.

He is arguably the fastest skater on the Swedish team. I'd personally rank Isac Born (role player) faster and defenseman Calle Odelius is up there too. You also forgot his main strength - hockey iq. No one on this team comes close. Hockey sense is elite.

I wonder if Östlund is gonna be late riser in the boards. He has now been hovering around end of first/early second. He should be getting some new eyes interested after his play in this tournament.

How is pass first a "con"?

That’s not totally a con, but when I saw him at the Hlinka and with Djurgarden I was screaming for him to shoot.

I really like him and get that he’s kind of a driver at this level but I still like both his DIF peers better as pro prospects. I suspect we will see that fleshed out on draft day.

This. Lekkerimaki and Ohgren are the Krutov and Makarov to Ostlund’s Larionov. They all complement each other very well but I think that Ohgren is the guy that makes the line work. Take him off and they aren’t half as effective.

Judging a player by his performance in an August tournament(the summer WJC's will be whack) isn't the best thing to do, and Östlund played his worst during that tournament. I believe the Djurgården games you've said you have watched were his SHL games where he barely played on the 4th line? Ehhh

As for Öhgren being the guy to make the line work? No, he isn't. Östlund is the engine and he's very much a natural center in distributing the puck.

I'd suggest you do watch the U18 tournament as it sounds like you haven't and wished to downplay one of his goals while he was stellar throughout the tournament in all zones. Would've gotten a lot more apples if it weren't for Öhgren whiffing on a ton of passes while with an open net. But can't blame Liam too much as he played injured and did make up for it in the GMG.

I'm perfectly happy if NHL teams wanna sleep on his size and he's there for the Habs pick in round 2.

He does everything you want a top 6 center to do in the NHL, he's just not very big but I didn't find he got himself into too many situations where he played to his size disadvantage. The only times he was ever in hot water was when Cooley was pushing everyone on their heels.

If anything, Östlund screams like a smart GM's pick. Something in the likes of Yzerman or Kekeläinen who could make a move at least in the second round. Would fit their profiles quite well.

If you can let Östlund play one year in SHL, one year in AHL and then bring him up, you could have a gem in your hands. Maybe one year in AHL only could work as well but that is maybe too fast considering his physichal strength.

Does anybody know what the plan is next year for the Djurgardens forwards trio? They were relegated to Allsvenskan which is not be optimal for the development of Lekkerimaki, Ohgren, and Ostlund. I think it’s possible all 3 end up in the AHL.
