Suzuki is fast and agile enough to play in the NHL. Not that was the reason why he was picked, or what makes him the player he will be. He is a player that seems to be in the right spot at the right time 99% of the time.

lol i'm gonna get bashed for this... i'm in 0 way comparing the 2 players level. but at times Suzuki makes plays that make him look stylisticly talking to Crosby! for example at exacly 2min in this video, you put a Penguins jersey with #87 on that play and i swear you could think it's him.
He obviously doesn't have young Crosby's burst and strength, nor is he as good defensively, but he is stylistically similar in how he produces offence, and his skill level and IQ aren't that far off.

He plays a similar style IMO, he just needs A LOT more strength in his legs. But he goes in corner, drive net with his slick hands from time to time, extremely well positioned and his IQ is amazing.

I was actually telling that to a friend yesterday but I know it sounds crazy

never thought crosby was overly fast tbh... he just knows how to use his speed and he's deceptive add how strong his lower body strenght is + probably the best edge in hockey!

I’ve watched him a total of three times live now. I’d compare him more to Matt Barzal from what I’ve seen

Youre out of your mind if you think Suzuki has similar IQ and skill to Crosby. Not even in the same stratosphere.

Hilarious take.
Suzukis IQ and Skill levels are elite of the elite. The big differences between he and Crosby are explosiveness, strength down low, and defensive play.

I don't think anybody's comparing Suzuki's skill level to Crosby's... Whoever compared them, I think, meant that both players are similar in the way they see the ice and think the game. Crosby is much stronger in a strictly physical sense and is a generational talent. He's also been passionate and worked his ass off to get to where he's at. Suzuki will never get near Crosby's abilities but he'll be a similar kind of player in the way he plays the game. How much he will develop in terms of physical strength and skills is up for debate and mostly up to him. He's already shown that he's a dominant player in his age group so it's just a matter of commitment, passion and development which will come in the right environment. And that's the million bucks question.

Sounds more like Giriux. The offensive instincts are there.
Suzuki is nothing like giroux...i worked for gatineau as a scout when giroux was there snd we won the championship and his ability as a character player...just total dominance was better than suzuki....im not taking anything away from suzuki he is skilled, flashy, does not have the character and lesdership giroux had and is a notch bellow giroux on offense

Where do you Suzuki? A 55-60 point, 2nd liner, 1st line caliper player his career year or two.

I'm pretty sure Suzuki's character and leadership qualities are the most lauded qualities he has. He's the only three time winner of the William Hanley Trophy in OHL history.

agree with that.....suzuki has some tools and skill....but i don't see giroux in him.....my giroux comparison for the last two years has been Robert Thomas.....and if u compare careers up to this point......it's not looking too shabby haha

I wasn't nearly as high on this kid in his draft year.....but man....he looks like a stud in the making. Is it me or has his skating really "Taken strides" (pun intended) since his draft year.

A quick look at your username tells all there is to know about your message.

As far as I'm concerned, I haven't watched enough to compare him to anyone, but I find Scout man's reasoning suspect since his main arguments against Suzuki don't fit with recent history at all..

I didn't mean that as crapping on suzuki....and i know it looks bad...but I actually fell in love with thomas before STL drafted him....I was literally praying and telling all my buddies we have to draft this kid if he's still on the board at 20....thankfully he was and thankfully we did...... I'd honestly say the exact same thing about him if he played for chicago.........but i don't want to derail this thread...i was just pointing out he's been my giroux comparable since before my blues even drafted him.....

Anyway, suzuki is a gonna be a stud IMO....just not quite like giroux IMO..... He actually reminds me a lot of backstrom in the way he feels the game and see's the ice and skates. Extremely high IQ

If only Suzuki had the leadership to, oh I don't know, let's say bring his team back from the brink of elimination multiple times in a row when people had already written them off, and absolutely dominated in all of those elimination games.

If only
