He was who I hoped the Kings would get prior to the draft.

Though I'm ecstatic they got Vilardi. I didn't think he'd fall that far. But as far as players expected to be available, he was my pick.

I have said it multiple times, he reminds me of Mike Richards. Solid two-way play, but plays hard.

Since there are no playoffs for their AHL affiliate either, I expect Nick to get a big and welcoming invite to Team Canada for the WHC in Switzerland this spring to further pepper his development. He can attempt to make amends for the disaster which was Vancouver WJC. Counting on you, Nick.

dude is having a great rookie year.

Laval is only 2 wins out of a playoff spot, they definitely aren't out of it yet.

So this is what a potential number 1 centre looks like....pardon me, but us Habs fans haven't seen one for quite a while.

This is no knock on Kotkaniemi either as he was more than likely rushed into the NHL at the age of 18. There's a huge difference between Nick Suzuki at age 19 and now at age 20.

I'd say him and Suzuki probably had very close value.
Vegas paid a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It didn't work out, but it doesn't mean he was worth anything on the market all of a sudden.

Tatar was pretty much a cap dump though, Vegas obviously saw him as a misfit with their team. They wouldn't trade Suzuki on top of him just to get Pacioretty who was coming off a massive down year if he wasn't. With Tatar bouncing back big time though, and Suzuki having this monster rookie year, the trade has been an absolute slamdunk win for us. Glad for Vegas and Patches as well, they are probably quite alright with the deal right now as well.

way more talent

He needs 20 points in 20 games to reach 60... That's doable but I think he'll tap out at 54.

Suzuki will only continue to get better as he gets bigger and stronger and his skating gets more explosive. His high IQ will ensure longterm success. Definitely a cornerstone of the future.

Comparing Richards and Suzuki is terrible, Suzuki has better vision and MUCH better hockey sense. Suzuki is a Bergeron/Stone type player.

But please, tell me more about a player you've seen play 2 or 3 times!

At first I thought it was Brad Richards and didn't think it was a bad comparaison. Mike didn't have the same style, Nick is more of à cerebral player

Thing is, people are trying to think of defensively responsible, 2-way #1 Cs as comparables, and rightly so.

Most will talk about Bergeron, O'Reilly, M. Koivu... I can see how he compares in prime M. Richards (with obviously less grit), since both are not the best skaters.

I find Suzuki skating really isn't an issue. Maybe he had some a few years back. He sure isn't a speedster, but I would say it's pretty much average in the NHL now.
