Can he play the wing?

He's played mostly right wing the last half of the season, though he plays a fair amount of centre too. Been centred by Kevin Hancock who has been the anchor for that top line.

Suzuki in some rarified air for 17 year old scorers. Last game of the regular season against Guelph this evening. Might put together a list of other OHL 17 year old seasons shortly to give people an idea of the kind of season this guy is having.

Adjusting for age and league quality his closest comparable would be Fabbri statistically from the last 4 drafts, looking just at draft seasons. He's be behind McDavid, Marner, Tkachuk (I know he was 18/late birthday), Debrincat (late birthday), and Bennett. He'd be ahead of Zacha, Monahan, A. Nylander, Logan Brown, and Domi.

Even when he plays center he does most of his damage from the right side. He's a fantastic faceoff guy, great defensively and has the smarts and mobility to play center but his size may be better suited to the wing at the next level.

So when people say his skating isn't that great how "not great" is it? The dobbler report says he has quick feet and says uses his speed to impact the game, so which side of his skating issues is it really? Seems to be conflicting opinions.

In my opinion he is not a bad skater, in fact he is a good skater. But he is not a "great" skater for a player of his size and I think that's what it comes down to. Had he been 6'3 people would probably say that he is a very good skater for his size, so...it all comes down to perspective. Anyway I don't see his foot speed being an issue at the NHL level. He'll need to improve it to be more of an impact player, but it's not a big issue.

His skating really turns me off and he seems to make very basic plays in the offensive zone, granted he has a high IQ and makes the right play. Don't expect him to be an electric offensive threat but rather a reliable point producer that will get the boring points.

Suzuki's skating is very good.

Great edgework.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

If he raced Vilardi, he would have time to turn around and laugh at him before he crossed the finish line.

I agree....though his skating can improve. Often his brain is moving a lot faster than his feet can move. Sometimes a bit awkward and off balance. It's a non issue though.

Should be a top 5 pick maybe. I'd prefer Suzuki over Vilardi/Tippett/Glass/Rassumussen. I really haven't seen enough of Necas and Pettersson to know. But Suzuki is probably my #3 NA forward.

Edit: I forgot about Mittelstadt. Suzuki is probably a tad behind Mittelstadt. So, #4 NA Forward.

He's a good skater, but he doesn't have that 'high end' speed so to speak. He can get from point a to point b with no problems and he's not slow, but at the same time, he doesn't have the jets that someone like Johnny Gaudreau has. A good comparison for Suzuki is Claude Giroux. They're similar skaters in that they're both good, but they don't have that high end speed that can separate them. Of course, that might just be an issue with leg strength and once Suzuki grows a little bit and adds more muscle mass to his legs and core, he'll be a more explosive skater.

EDIT: I just read Dobbers and I really hate that term 'undersized'. 5'10, 185 pounds is not undersized. I get the NHL GMs usually look for guys 6 feet +, but 5'10 isn't small. Undersized is such a lazy term to describe someone. He's a good hockey player that's below 6 feet, but he's not undersized. As well, with Suzuki turning 18 in August, he still probably has one more growth spurt left before he's done, so it won't surprise me if he tops out at 6'1 - 6'2. Josh Morrissey of Winnipeg was 5'10 when he was drafted and grew an extra three inches and is now 6'1.

I hate reading player profiles on forecaster. A guy who is 5'11 and 199 would have "size might be an issue" but at 6'0 and 200 they will never mention size.

I agree that I would take Suzuki over Vilardi...no brainer for me. Vilardi the most overrated of the OHLers in the 1st Round IMO.

Tippett...I don't know. Close one. I really like both Tippett and Suzuki. Tippett is more of a scorer, Suzuki is more of a playmaker. Tippett the winger...Suzuki plays both Wing and Center...regardless of who you prefer the gap between the 2 isn't very big. It's not at all out of the realm of possibility to see Suzuki go before Tippett.

Haven't really watched enough of the rest to comment.
