Halifax vs Quebec is going to be a great series as well as a great showing of top end prospects. Mackinnon seemed to play his best hockey vs Quebec at home this season, 4 points the first game (1g 3a), and 5 goals the next time they came, both wins.

Just amazing speed, it's like speed boost on NHL 12 and you just start clicking the stick in, the CPU teams can't keep up and nearly stand still.

It's not just his insane speed that's so amazing, it's his ability to be totally in control at that speed with the puck, to make quick moves at top speed without slowing down.

That speed is incredible, it makes you think for a brief moment that it's in fast forward.

Reminds me of watching high school clips of Marcus Dupree.

i see why theres all the crosby comparisons. i do believe this kid will be elite in the nhl. its only a matter of how long we have to wait.

So you're saying he's Bure!

There is one question to be asked about this guy. Will he be willing to play for lets say Columbus ?

I'm just asking cuz he didn't wanted to play for Baie-Comeau who drafted him as #1.

Columbus is a lot different than Baie-Comeau. Columbus needs a new franchise player if Nash leaves and they'll build around MacKinnon. I think he'll be happy wherever he goes in the NHL

I have a bad feeling that either Calgary or Minnesota will be terrible next year and end up with him. No more young talent in the NW! The Avs and Oilers have enough!

This is what he's really worked on over the season. Earlier on he'd fumble the puck a lot skating into the zone, creating a turnover. Over the past month or so he's cut that down a lot.

Let's hope he has a bit better of a professional career!

Seems like a logical extrapolation. Teenage hockey player doesn't want to play in a remote French-Speaking Canadian outpost (which seems to happen all the time in the CHL), therefore he wouldn't want to play in an NHL English speaking city with 15th largest metropolitan population in the US.

Not to mention there's no NHL franchise in Halifax to hold out for.

My question was more because he refused to play in a team that finished a la Columbus few years in a row near the dark end of the standings (not minding 16 out of 18 teams make playoffs).

He is also the first one I remember (I'm into LHJMQ only for about 5-6 years) that refused to report to a team for such reasons. And when you think about it, Nabokov did the same thing to Islanders last year.

There are other NHL players who are chasing the cup before the end of their career and are looking at a serious cup contender and Columbus, Edmonton, Montreal and a few others currently are not even near that.

Esposito (refused to go to Saint John of all places)
Anthony
MacKinnon

I'm sure there's more but these are prominent examples. Happens nearly every year and I don't think the quality of the team was the main reason.

I believe Adam Erne did the same thing this year too as when hte moose drafted him it seemed he was going to play college but quebec trades for him and he instantly changes his mind....these things happen every year, theres a diffence between going to a small french speaking town and making nex to no money and going to a fairly large city and making 1M+ per year. If you look at the NHL draft every year there are probably 3 players drafted in the first round who did the exact same thing when they were 15 so I dont think there is any reason to worry about that.

Anyway of his 6 goal so far i think 5 of them were of the very nice to the extremely impressive persuation

It is all about options. An under 18 player should care less if there is a draft or not in a given league. There are other options for an elite player that are 100% the players choice. Of course these options come at a cost (pay for play at a prep school, lesser competition than Jr A if chooses to play elite travel another year) but at least there is a choice. And if a player compares the team that drafted him to the next two years of hockey and maybe his college choice and decides that the latter is better, so be it. (And then if the player is traded and the Jr A team now is ideal and wins out over two years of another league and college choice, so be that too.)

Uses size to protect the puck and not get pushed around. Don't see him throwing his weight around a lot tho tbh. Not in my viewings anyways

He's thrown the odd big hit from my viewings of him this year. Definitely not an overly physical player though. He protects the puck extremely well and like GM17 said, doesn't get pushed around. His puck protection skills remind me alot of Crosby's (obviously not at Crosby's level but a similar style).

I definitely agree with others about his puck protection skills, they're very impressive for a 16 year old.

I think he's a physical player though, without a doubt. He's no Kassian, circa 2010, but he engages opponents physically quite often. He isn't afraid of going into the corners, as he often comes out with the puck.
