Hey guys, I'm a Leaf fan so I'm potentially looking forward to having the pleasure of my team draft this fellow.

I don't know a whole tonne about Marner's game other than he used to be small but has grown to respectable size and he is very skilled.

Can someone give me a breakdown comparison between him and Strome? I figure it's between Marner and Strome for the Leafs Draft pick, but I actually don't know a tonne about either at this point. And best case for both of them who would they project out to be?

Marner can be said to have a floor of Gagner, and a ceiling of P. Kane. That's who he plays like, and is built like.

He'll need time in the minors to bulk up and continue to rack up points in the AHL. Can not be rushed.

Personally, I think closer to Kane than Gagner by a fair margin, but some people get very skittish and nervous about guys who will likely never be heavier than 180 in their career.

Gagner Pts/game in draft year: 2.22

Marner: 2.06

Both 5'10 - 5'11

Both London Knights

Both tore up WHC-17 tournaments

Both right handed, and both like that upper right corner shot

Both play with terrific players, but the difference is Marner is the highest scorer on his line and team, despite the other elite talent around him being older.

Gagner was the third highest scorer on his line. That alone will always set off some alarm bells, although he was obviously very talented in his own right.

I've also heard that Marner plays with a lot of heart to his game as well? Is that true?

Because a Patrick Kane with that sort of elite tenacity playing Centre sounds too good to be true.

Part of me says we may have to go for Strome if we go for size, we have plenty of skill, and even some with good heart/passion coming up for our forward prospects in Nylander, Conner Brown (Love this kid, think he's going to be very good, not elite, but a clear cut top 6 forward), Andreas Johnson (Similar to Brown, he could very well become a swedish Brendan Gallagher) as well as some other players who may or may not make it at the pro level. We need one more Blue chip talent to go along with Nylander (preferably another centre), but I do think we'll need some size less JvR be the only size we have there. So if Strome could be a RyJo for us that'd be great.

Marner is a RW, and that's where he'll play in the NHL.

He's feisty, and there aren't many guys in the top 15 who don't play with heart...

Marner will have to go to the right team to explode offensively. Dont think he will be a ppg player in Arizona. No offence.

Yes but Gagner was also the youngest on the line. S. Kostitsyn was 19/20, Kane turned 18 a third of the way through the season and Gagner was 17. Let's not take away from his impressive accomplishments at age 17. But yes, your point is very valid, Marner leading that line in points and PPG while being the youngest is very impressive.

Was a 2.61 PPG player without Domi on his line and after the slow start (73P/28GP; Games 11-38). Since Domi was thrust onto his line, 1.92 PPG (25P/13GP). Doing well considering the circumstances (14 of these 25 points did NOT have Domi in on them despite 90-95% of Marner's shifts being with Domi since WJC). Unequivocally the biggest obstacle of his junior career.

Yeah. I'd just let him play with Dvorak and let Domi anchor another line. That's how Marner works best. That's how Domi works best.

No reason to put them together IMO.

The Domi thing is so irritating.

It's late enough in the day of Domi's career that I don't get why Dale is carrying on with this BS.

Fingers crossed that Marner doesn't get drafted by Arizona.

You do know that AZ also owns Dvorak, right?

Perlini-Dvorak-Marner seems pretty awesome.

Domi-McInnis-Samuelsson could be cool too.

Yeah, it would.

And just to be clear, my problem isn't with the Yotes as a team in general. So I don't want to give that impression.

This kid looks like a Claude Giroux clone to me. He's so intense and competitive, dare I say but he may be as good as McDavid one day.. Let the flaming commence..

The OHL has plenty of top defensive forwards. Marner has had such a good season that the only one who has really been effective in slowing him down is in fact Domi himself.

Worth noting that he scored 2 goals and 3 assists this afternoon.

I want him to have the most points in the entire CHL bad.

He has now passed the point totals of both Hall and Seguin in their draft years, and tied with Hall for goals. Marner listed at 5.11 165lbs. Seguin/Hall were 6.01 185lbs.

With 8 more goals Marner will pass both Seguin/Hall in goals too.

I like Marner but there's no way he goes top 3 ahead of Hanifin. Unless Arizona is sitting at third and goes off the map to grab him. In which case I would be perfectly fine with, as that would mean the Leafs get Hanifin.

Buffalo's hot goalie costs them last, the lottery pushes them to 3...they take Marner because they have 4 better D than they have 2 on offense. That's how.
