The scouting report on Zacha that got parroted around here for a year was 100% polar opposite of the player he was in his rookie year.

Some people see what they want to see and make reality fit their expectations. I prefer data. McLeod is producing, period. New Jersey should be very excited about him, no amount of qualifiers will change what he's accomplished this season.

nature of the boards, either get frustrated by it or have fun with it. this isn't unique to this thread or the mikey haters, but HF is notorious for criticizing prospects to the point where they're breathing incorrectly. maybe criticism would be taken more seriously if it was offered in a realistic scope (i.e. giving credit where credit is due) as opposed to doubling down on it whenever a prospect does well

guess what worshippers do when their prospect does well? Call out people who criticized their favorite player. Just answering the call. Also pointing out that it's not all rosy. Take what you want from whatever conversation around here. No point in having everybody agreeing to everything.

Yakupov is an excellent example of a player who didn't manage his speed in juniors. Always full speed all the time towards the other net. Worked in junior hockey. Not in pro hockey.

Yes, clearly if Yakupov didn't skate hard all the time he would be a better NHL player.

Nobody brags about who they've been wrong about.

and nobody comes back to tell you ended right in any debate.

On the whole, I'm quite happy with my record in the various debates we've had. I've rarely argued against certain players. The big cases for me were Paajarvii, Lazar and McCarron. Not to the extent they were busts but that they were vastly overrated by many. As another example, you can look past at the mocks we did on the Habs board.

He's just amassing points against terrible opposition. I know it's the OHL semi-finals and the Petes swept their first two series, but take my word for it they're terrible, the fact he only managed a 4 point night is just sad :sarcasm:

I don't get it. No one is arguing to put him as first overall in a redraft. He isnt Matthews.

He is playing really well and looks like a great pick at 12 and maybe he should be moved up a spot or two in a redraft.

Having the opinion that McLeod's game won't translate to the NHL is fine. Constantly reinforcing it is the problem. Just sit back and see what happens at this point. Hell even the Flyers fans have backed off.

I think the real reason why you keep shooting McLeod down is that your own team could have drafted him and didn't and now you justifying that by knocking him down.

I keep this short because it belongs in a different thread but talk about a player who I think will have trouble translating he's junior game to the pro's would be who Mtl picked in sergachev! Showed No defensive awernes progression this year and do you still think he can take the puck end to end on every shift like he does in the ohl? Yes he has a slap shot but you can't survive on that. He need to show some glimpse on why he was picked in the top 10.

You've probably hit the nail on the head here. As a Devils fan I'm sour on the Mclead pick, not because I dislike Mcleod, but because I thought we should be picking higher, ending up with at least a Tkachuk or Keller. For picking 12th Mcleod was about as good as we could get-he's done about everything you could ask in his draft year+1 and would certainly move up at least a couple picks in a redraft.

Sergachev looks fine, don't fall into the trap of comparing other teams' prospects.

Ok? Couldn't be farther from the truth. For me it was anyone but McLeod, basically. I was scared they were going to pick him as McCagg was so high on him, and in recent years, the player he was high on turned out to be the Habs pick.

Go on the Habs board. There have been many occasions where I was critical of their selections. I can think of the '13 draft in particular. I was very critical of the McCarron and De La Rose selections. DLR, btw, another big bodied, good skater with hustle whose game was going to translate so well at the next level. Or when they picked Thrower over Severson.

Besides, I'm quite happy with the Sergachev selection. I'd make that pick 10/10 over McLeod. Not that this has anything to do with that thread anyways. I explained why I have doubts over McLeod translating to the next level. Do what you want with it. I simply pointed out facts and explained my reasoning. People turned it into a joke. Not my problem if it ended up poluting the thread.
