I think he needs a full season or more of NHL play before coming to any kind of conclusion. He's looked great at this tournament as he should.
I'm sorry but alot of people have had awful evaluations of him in this thread irregardless of how his career turns out

I see McTavish as the type of player that excels more in pro/higher level environments and type of play (like a ROR, Brady Tkachuk etc). His OHL numbers arent anything out of this world (but still really strong), and I think if you just look strictly at his numbers youre selling him short. He plays a very "pro" game, and kids in junior don't always play that way. You can already see the chemistry between a high level player like Bedard and McTavish. They just think the game and play a different way than a lot of their peers.

Agree here and he is going to be a very good NHLer.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had a HHOF type of career.

Y'all need to chill lol. It's been 4 games.

A week ago most Ducks fans would have said he is likely to be a good #2 center. Now people after asking if he is generational or saying he may have a HHOF career.

Chill. Don't put that expectations on him.

I'm not a ducks fan that's just my opinion of him much like Matthew Tkachuk who I think will have a HHOF career and thought so on draft day as well.

I mean this is Hockeysfuture…if we can’t allow ourselves to do a little projection what’s the point? Yeah, sure, of course we will have a better idea of what McTavish is about after a full year seeing him in the NHL. You can say that about Bedard too. Or your random 5th round pick. That concept applies to every prospect universally. I don’t see the harm in having a little wishcasting based on this particular prospects very exciting development curve and showing this past week.

I for one will have to admit I was pretty wrong in the kid leading up to the draft last year. I think he’s on the shortlist of best prospects in the world at the moment and also on the shortlist of top Calder candidates next season. I won’t go so far as to claim he’s gonna be a HHOFer but it’s perfectly fair for Ducks fans to dream big with him just as it is for Devils fans with Luke Hughes and Sabres fans with Owen Power and so on.

Well he went #3 so is that so much later than #2? Also Beniers scored 9 points in 10 games in NHL which is quite a bit more impressive than any WJC-U20 performance would be. McTavish needs to bring it in NHL.
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #5 by Elite Prospects
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #7 by ISS Hockey
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #10 by FCHockey
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #10 by TSN/Craig Button
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #7 by McKeen's Hockey
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #4 by TSN/McKenzie

I mean these were the rankings before the draft. No one expected him to go #3, let alone #2 where I had him. I would be shocked if Beniers has a better career than McTavish.

While that’s true…. We also shouldn’t act like beniers is a lock for 70+ point seasons, because he had a good 10 games in nhl

For sure, but Beniers is pencilled in as the #1C for his team this season whereas McTavish may not make the team.

Im not advocating one way or the other I think its silly to make claims about these guys careers at this point. Not as bad as asking who's generational though.

Also silly to compare where they are on their respective teams. The Ducks already have a 20 year old as their #1 center and are in no rush to rush McT into something like that.

They will be very different players.

I think thats where you have the disconnect between scouts who are seeing what you're seeing, and fans who are more naturally drawn to flashines. I see a big kid whos a bull on the puck and in front of the net who just happens to have the type of hands and shot you don't normally see from guys like him. Could he be more physical? Maybe but I think he just picks his spots

I guess you missed all the people that trashed the pick and called it a reach

Mason just needs to learn how to smile every picture he takes he looks like a mugshot
