McTavish wore the C in the rookie tournament and, predictably, was one of the better players. Then, he got hurt and missed the beginning of preseason -- the regular preseason that is. He came back Sunday and has been in two preseason games.
He definitely wasn't one of the best players at rookie camp. Assuming you didn't watch. Our boards literally thought he was taking it easy and coasting. It's not a big deal though he's played a lot of hockey and is still getting used to the pace. He'll be fine.

You assume correctly. I didn't watch and based that off the report. I'm also not worried and think he'll be fine.

I’m stacked with draft picks in my fantasy league, I pick twice in the 6th rd and once and not again until the 12th.

Worth the gamble in Rd 6?

Really depends who's left but I would say no. Is this a dynasty league? How is it scored, are goals extra value?

Is he going to play center or wing this season? I can't tell yet and would think you'd prefer to know before drafting him?

Keeper league? Absolutely. He should already be owned. One-year league? Don't expect too much but worth a late-round gamble in a deep league, I'd say.

It’s a keeper league, but we only have 4 we can protect. Heading into this season I protected Kaprizov, Stützle, Seider and J. Hughes.

I won the “Draft Position” Playoffs, so I pick 1st in rounds 1-3, and have multiple 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Rd picks.

He’s likely going to be a bench player most of the year, but with the Ducks having a ton of Mon, We’d and Fri games, I thought it might be worth it with one of my last 2 picks.

I prefer not to wait for anyone to give me the pints. I always take the initiative and come back to the table with at minimum two pints, one in both hands. His teammates won't like to see someone come back to the table empty-handed. McTavish needs to do better.
Yeah, he really needs to improve his Pints/60. It’s a shame that Bob Murray isn’t with the organization anymore as he would have been a great mentor for improving that stat.

I personally wouldn’t drop any of your keepers for McTavish

in a perfect world McTavish would start in the AHL and play 20 minutes a game at center, instead he's going to have on the job training since going back to juniors is not going to happen

He's probably not worth a keeper over those players. By virtue of being a forward (especially if a C) instead of a D, he MIGHT eventually put up more fantasy points than Seider (that does NOT mean I think he'll be a better/more valuable player), but I don't think I'd risk it right now. If he's available later on (especially close to when your roster is full), you might want to take a flier on him and see if he does better than expected. Maybe trade him for a pick next year to someone who has a keeper spot.

Calder winner book it. AINEC.

But honestly I love McTavish. He's pronably my favorite non Devils prospect in the league right now and for good reason. If the Ducks didn't take him at #3 I wonder of the Devils would have taken him if Luke Hughes wasn't available still. Would be an awesome linemate for Jack Hughes...I still am pumped for Luke but McTavish is sooooo good. Kid was way to under the radar leading to last year's draft.

Yeah it seems like the top of this draft may be better than some thought

He was probably the 2nd best player on the ice for the Ducks after Terry. For a while, I thought he was our best player last night. He didn’t play enough, which is odd because I can’t really even point to any defensive miscues.
McTavish might be a great prospect but he's also human, no god. The last time he had extended time off to hit the gym, work out away from hockey he was still 17. Since then he was always either injured or playing hockey. Missed almost two full camps/preseasons due to injury as well, played lots of tournaments and for lots of teams which involved lots of travelling. There's just absolutely no way his conditioning is anywhere near where it should be at this point. I think if he plays more than 10-13mins a night he'll tire out in no time and has to get scratched for back to backs or risk getting hurt again.

This is why my expectations for him are very low for this season. Give the man some time off and a chance to properly prepare for a season and he'll be a different player. For now Eakins has to watch McTavish and his TOI closely. I think Eakins and the Ducks know that though.

After a kinda slow start to the year (11 points in 23 games) he has 9 points in his last 12, 6 in his last 5. Also only shooting 8% on the year, which I think is quite low for his skills imo. Should probably see him up around the 12/13% later in his career.

Any duck fans have thoughts on his season so far and if it seems like hes starting to get more comfortable in the league?

He’s awesome and is everything he was advertised to be. Strong, skilled, can drive play, great anticipation.

I see him being a 70-75 point 1C that’s tough to play against

We eased him in this season as a winger and he was only ok there.
Since his move to center, he has been an impressive all-around player that is creating even with 4th line wingers (Jones and Leason). He does many things very well, including without the puck. And on the PP his shot is super good.

Will see how the season proceeds, but he certainly looks much better at center, which coincides with his increased production, despite getting worse linemates than at wing. As you noted, his shooting % should increase (no way with a shot like his). He has showed some great playmaking as well
