C Mason McTavish - Peterborough Petes, OHL (2021, 3rd, ANA)

12 points in his last 10 games, but he's been shot out of a cannon since being put as our #1C 2 games ago.

1+1 in a 2:0 win over Dallas
2+2 in a 5:4 win over San Jose

Crazy that he was eligible for the WJC but obviously he was needed in Anaheim. Obviously, San Jose's defense might not be the best measurement stick, but he was instrumental in that Dallas game as well... if he can keep it up, he could put himself back into the Calder race.

He is now hurting Anaheim's chances to land his good buddy Connor Bedard

Well he's certainly proving why he was drafted #3 overall.
He is aleady better than previous years top3 picks: Byfield, Dach, Laf, Kakko, Kotkaniemi and he's only gonna get better.

It does help that McTavish wasn't rushed as much as those other guys.

Since December he has 15 points in 17 games. Hope he keeps it up through the rest of the season!

Also, hes just slightly behind Beniers in production despite being on a much worse team and getting about 2 and a half mins less toi.

This needed to be bolded. It’s so rare an 18-19 year old can do anything in the NHL these days with the players so much faster/stronger than previous years/decades. Really wish Laf and Kakko stayed in their respective leagues for another year, even if they were dominating them.

The Covid draft year was going to do that to someone and his growth since the draft has been exceptional.
