I mean Örebro hasn’t scored more than two goals in a game since november 19th. I don’t think they are good enough without him performing.

Even if we don't count his current slump he scored just 2 goals in 18 games before it. I understand it's a professional league and very good one, but 2 goals in 18 games doesn't look great to compete vs kids like Bedard, Fantilli or Michkov.

Yeah, Örebro has been on a free fall since the beginning of November. Their defensemen are not up to snuff, even if their coach makes some weird decisions. They love to panic, and mishandle the puck even when they are under zero pressure. Like, you have forecheckers that'll take 4-5 seconds to get to you but instead you either fumble the puck or fall over. Watching them makes me want to poke my eyes out.

As for the "4th" line bit: the lines were rolled equally so he ended up with 14-15 minutes played in those two games(after coming off a 20+ minutes game where he played the most amongst forwards on the "3rd" line). The latest game he was centered by Leino, the two players who are tied for 4th in scoring for Örebro. Anyway, he really should've been tested on center for both of them, that's on the coach. The more Leo touches the puck the better the results.

I know this won’t be an exciting comparison for those who don’t appreciate how good Tomas Hertl is, but Carlsson reminds me so much of Hertl at the same age but with better speed and much better vision and playmaking.

This kid is a future star, in my opinion, if he works on his clear weaknesses, and the things he needs to improve on the most will improve with age and maturity as long as Carlsson puts the effort in. When Hertl was in his teens and early 20’s, one of his weaknesses was that he lost his balance too easily and went down under pressure. He went to work on his lower body strength and balance and now he’s one of the hardest players in the league to push off the puck. When Carlsson gets his man strength and puts in the gym work to develop a Hertl-like strength on his skates, he’ll be Malkin-esque. The other thing Carlsson needs to work on is his pass/shoot decision-making, which is Joe Thornton-like right now. He’s a playmaker through and through, but he’ll become a much more dangerous offensive threat if opponents have to defend both the shot and pass.

I’m probably one of few who has Carlsson above Fantilli right now.

Michkov first?
Michkov will not be in the top 5 no matter how good he is with his contract and Putin. Bedars would not be drafted in the top 5 either if he was in the situation.

Anyhow, Carlsson is a future number 1 center in the NHL

He's looked a lot like Auston Matthews in this tournament. Big, soft hands, great shot, smooth on the ice.

Obviously more of a pass first guy but he's really done a great job of getting to the net.

This has been a definitive game for Leo Carlsson. I stand by my Hertl++ comparison, but I don’t actually mind the Draisaitl-lite comparison either (which is not an insult to Carlsson, just a nod to how honestly oppressive Drai is in the offensive zone). Carlsson will never be an elite shooter, but he’ll score a lot of goals in the NHL the way he did tonight: by planting himself in front of the net and not letting anyone move him.

I don’t think you’re one of the few. I’d think almost everyone has Bedard 1, Fantilli/Carlsson/Michkov 2-4, but the order of 2-4 varies widely from person to person. Going into the WJC, Fantilli was certainly the most popular choice at 2, then very variable between 3 and 4. But I’d say in the tourney so far, Fantilli’s stock has dropped slightly, Carlsson’s risen slightly, and they were all so close to start with that we’re probably going to see a wide range of opinions re: 2-4 ordering.

I think Fantilli, Carlsson and Michkov are all worthy of a 2nd overall pick in an average draft year, and a 1st overall pick in a weak draft year.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Almost everyone had Fantilli at 2nd and those who didn’t had Michkov 2nd. I’ve seen maybe one or two people other than me have Carlsson second.

Carlsson is 10x the skater that Draisaitl was, way smoother.

Carlsson will go second or third. Looks really good. Maybe not Sundin because not very nasty player but definetly Barkov/ Malkin style.

Michkov will drop as he is russian and there is really good alternatives like Carlsson.. maybe Smith too.

Yeah, pre-WJC almost all of the bigger analyst lists were “Fantilli 2, Carlsson 3, Michkov 4,” or “Fantilli 2, Michkov 3, Carlsson 4.” But looking beyond the rankings, reading the analyses, they basically all said “2-4 is very close/up in the air, order strongly subject to change, but they’ve opened a significant gap on 5+.”

Obviously post-WJC lists have yet to come out, but I think Carlsson at 2 will not be an unpopular opinion. His WJC has been a bit better than Fantilli’s, that’ll be enough for many to change their mind, as most had them very close pre-WJC.
