Super impressive player. Better playmaker then I thought going into the season battling for that number 2 spot with Fantilli and Michkov

This is a really incredible single game reel.

For those who watch Carlson’s full games, there’s a comparison that I’m curious about since his numbers so far can’t really be compared to any other recent draft eligible player in the SHL: Sasha Barkov.

I watched a ton of Barkov’s games in his draft year due to the the NHL lockout and to me it was obvious that Barkov was a future star. He was so good at everything and had no weaknesses other than maybe his skating and frankly was a dominant player even as a 17 year old. I know that Leo is a late birthday (whereas Barkov was almost eligible for the 2014 draft), but can anyone who watches Carlsson frequently speak to how he might compare to Barkov?

I don't think that's the comparison I would go with.

I'm hesitant to say it, but f*** it...

...Leo Carlsson reminds me of young Mats Sundin.

That’s high praise.

Rather than stylistic, I more meant in terms of how dominant he’s been as a 17 year old in a European men’s league. No one has been as good as Carlsson in the SHL in a long time, but Barkov was that good in Liiga.

To be fair, at the time of the 2015 draft McDavid, Eichel, Strome, Marner, and Hanifin all looked like complete studs.
That's kind of proving the point isn't it? That's an epic top 5 by any measure.

- One generational player
- Two absolute superstars
- Hanifin hasn't hit the heights we wanted but is still a 22-24 minute a night #2/3 rock
- Even Strome isn't a bust...he's got a tremendous number of warts but he's a very productive offensive player when healthy

The beauty of this draft like 2015 isn't just the top 5 though...it's the depth that may field a Rantanen, Barzal, Connor, Werenski, Provorov, Chabot, etc outside the top 5. This isn't simply a good year to tank...it's a good year to have a great scouting staff.

Had a really nice rush at 4 on 4 around 6 minutes into the first period... Good finish, too, but great save. If he had scored on that...

Scouts at the game apparently were all standing up.
