They could keep him in the AHL like other teams do with players in their D+1. Would that be better?

This is what they feel is best for the player, and the team in the longterm. The players are not dumb. They know this is a development year.

It's not either/or. This is a weird choice by management straight-up, unless it's an injury.

The best swedish players has always skipped AHL right to NHL.

Those buried in AHL has rarely recovered. Erik Karlsson might be the only exception to the rule.

18-19 year olds do not need rest days. Resting 20-30 games isn’t going to be the reason he keeps on weight long term. 20-30 extra workouts over the course of a near calendar year won’t do much for an 18-19 year old’s strength and weight either, especially one as active as him.

I’d really like to hear the rationale/plan in full because it makes zero sense to me from where I sit.

We can't disagree in here now? I got to write the team a letter about my opinion? What?

Its a dumb ass plan. Strength and Conditioning during a hockey season? That is what the offseason is for.
It's a joke.

Teams take different paths with developing their players. If you take this at face value that this is to avoid overworking him then I have no issue with this.

I have said it previously but he has played like 8-10 games a month as a pro in the SHL. The Ducks play 14 games in November. Even if he sits 4 games next month he is still playing games at a higher rate then he ever has.

I personally disagree with him sitting 2 in a row, but I have no issue with them sitting him if they think it is best for his longterm development. This is a development year.

I’m fine with the development plan, as I’ll trust Verbeek. This just feels like a really odd game to do it. Play him today and then rest him vs Boston if you want to scratch him again so soon

I realize you didn't mean literally write a letter but it comes off condescending when all I was doing was giving my opinion on their plan, not even directly at you. Maybe I'm being emotional.

Anyway, I can understand the difficulties of the NHL schedule, especially coming from SHL, but then have him on a pitch count. Have him play 12-15 a night. I'm not sure how he is developing by not playing but that is really just my opinion. It feels like smartest guy in the room type shit. Maybe Verbeek is the smartest guy ever. I disagree with his plan.

Ya my bad. Didn't mean to be. Youre not alone in disagreeing with this.

But, you admit there are difficulties with the schedule and reducing minutes is reasonable. This is basically all they are doing.

Last year he played an average 14:40 a game and 8-10 games a month. Thats 132 minutes a month on average. If he played every game in the NHL he would be playing more then double that every month. 20 minutes a night 14 games a month.

I would rather they sit him 1/3 of the time then play him every game at a reduced role.

Management is smarter then me and anyone else in here. They would have the expert opinions and analytics.

I’m just sad though.

That's giving them a lot more credit than they've earned. It's like people saying hockey players are the toughest guys around.. Na, the toughest guys around are at work at 7am slinging drywall for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week.

When you do something different you're going to get pushback, it'll always be the case. If this shows results I would expect more teams to adopt it in the coming years.

Anaheim is not a playoff team, the development of the kid is first and foremost. If this is what they think is best, then execute it.
