It's clear there is no way he is going back to Sweden. He is either getting some time to cook in the AHL or will be in the NHL from the start.

It is so clear what the Ducks saw in him that made them value him over Fantilli. He makes everyone around him better and I genuinely think he is a darkhorse for the Calder if he actually gets the Ducks #1 center spot with Terry and Killorn.

I love Fantilli and think he would have been a perfect fit to play with Zegras but damn, if Carlsson was the more raw unfinished talent and he looks this good already...

Kind of reminds me of what people were saying about Lundell.

Or Kopitar really.

There's something to be said for being a big, smooth, relatively boring super effective player (not that he doesn't have moments of excitement or high skill), that kind of brain and vision will carry a team a lot further. I think he's the Ducks surefire 1C in short order and that's far less a knock at Zegras or MacT and far more a flattering of Leo. His game processing is second to none.

And yeah I also say that as a huge Fantilli fan

He actually has a physical game.

I agree, he's not going to run a guy through the boards, but he's by no means a finesse player. Even at 18 he's figured out how to use his frame against men effectively, and that frame is only going to get bigger and stronger. He'll be a horse with the puck. I also would say him being "boring" isn't true either, he's not super flashy, but he takes on defenders 1v1 attacking the triangle pretty often and at times too often during this preseason.

He is very flashy actually

He’s gonna be just fine. He actually has a lot of Barkov in his game, but I do think he has some extra flash that we’ll see, more and more as he matures.

He does a lot of the little things right already. A lot like Danielson has been doing in Detroit. So he’s not going to hurt the Ducks, or his development, playing in the NHL the entire year. The game’s not to big for him.. at all.

If he goes through an extended slump where things are visibly going bad, then maybe they send him down. They really shouldn’t play games with him. Sometimes a manager will want to see a player go through these ten game stretches in the AHL, but hopefully they don’t. Just leave him be. He’ll get better every night.

He’s legit, legit. Anaheim is officially loaded with some grade A prospects.

The kid looked so good tonight. Verbeek already confirmed he's made the NHL full time but tonight felt like Leo really earning Verbeek/Cronin's faith. Multiple scoring chances he didn't get to bury and some really nice passes to his linemates.

I thought he was Anaheim's best forward tonight in a game where Terry, Zegras, and Carlsson all played. Granted he's got a bit more conditioning under his belt with more preseason and rookie camp games played, but still. Carlsson showed he's got a strong foundation to build on at the NHL level.

He's gonna be sooo good in a few years.
