Getzlaf is not a coach.

People are overestimating his new position.
oh come on Getzbald stop slacking!!

quick story, so we just got Duclair and in an interview he said he's excited to come because Joe Thornton called him and will take him under his wing in San Jose. And Jumbo doesnt even have an official position like Getzy does!

He absolutely should be the #3.

Can’t really ask for a better prospect at that range
Definitely can.... Michkov and Fantilli

Don't get me wrong, i think Fantilli will be a very good player. His upside is Mackinnon but i don't see him reaching it.

I think Carlsson's upside is a faster Getzlaff and i think he will reach it.
Odd.... Fantilli is much more like Getzlaf than Carlson is.

The comp I have been hearing is Nicklas Backstrom. I do wonder if that's lazy considering they are both Swedes. Maybe some Swedish members on the board could comment on that.
It's not lazy at all, it's a perfect comparison. Both ultra talented playmakers with very good defensive abilities, similar size and skating as well.

Backstrom is the best comparison.. Kopitar is acceptable.. Getzlaf misses the mark

You could not pick more different players.

Getzlaf slowed everything down and picked teams apart with his vision. He was a monster on the wall and lived playing the cycle deep. You would never describe Fantilli that way.
The only think Fantilli has is the edge that Getzlaf had.

I’ll have franchise C over franchise C anytime.

In a normal draft I agree Michkov would be a total dream at that point but in this draft (potential) top5-8 C >

Bedard/Michkov

Fantilli
Benson
Smith
Carlsson

6th. 4th best
Based on what?

Yes, Backstrom is 6'3 and Getzlaf was a sniper

His skating was really underrated pre-draft. He's a bit slow to get going (as are most big men) but he's smooth and has a powerful stride.
He said that's his primary focus, could you imagine how good he'd be if he improved his acceleration and learns how to maximize his size advantage (which he's already really good at)? That's probably what the staff envisioned when they took him.

Don't forget about all the muscle he still has to add to that frame. He already showed in the SHL that as lanky as he is, he's really hard to knock off the puck. If he can commit to building muscle and improve those first few steps, he'll be a force.

Lots of praise for SHL defensive play (scarce odd-man situations) and praise for Orebro's development program by Carlsson. SC also identified Carlsson has been playing against men at age 16. Carlsson scoring so much in the regular season and then 2nd in scoring in the playoffs for Orebro doesn't get enough value identification.

Yeah the idea he has been playing against men since 16 yo gives me a lot of hope he can transition nicely into the NHL.

He may be "slow" but his skating is clearly improving. He'll be able to keep up in the NHL and his agility is super underrated (even for his size). Going to be a great player
