C Leo Carlsson (2023, 2nd, ANA)

I think Carlsson could play in the NHL, but he has a bit more he can learn / accomplish in the SHL. So I think he should go back to Sweden but we will see. The benefit to him playing in the NHL this year is Anaheim can directly oversee his development and growth during the season.
I only want Leo with the Ducks if Verbeek adds more support to the roster and it’s more competitive and not the dumpster fire it was last season.

He didn’t qualify some players who struggled and didn’t re-sign Shattenkirk. Also he said is looking to add a forward and support for the D. So we shall see.

But with that said another year in the SHL could be the best for him.

This guy I believe will be the 2nd best player in this year's draft. Few others will be just as good, if not better than Fantilli.

Was there a reason he put up better numbers in the playoffs than the regular season? More ice time maybe?

Sounds like Leo was Veebeek’s guy after losing out on Bedard and no scout could convince him otherwise. Was a reported unanimous choice within the Ducks’ brass after some warranted debate. I don’t really see this as Verbeek sticking his nose out and rather trusting the organization staff. In Madden we trust.

And Jeff Skinner in 2010-11. And Laine.

Its happened a fair amount. And with scoring on the rise it wouldn't shock me to see Carlsson in the 50-60+ point range.
Key point being those guys are wingers...easier transition to the NHL. Mackinnon, McDavid, Matthews are all C's like Carlsson.

They assembled a new line with Milton Oscarson (Chicago 2023 draft pick) and Linus Öberg (Sharks 2020 pick) which sort of "clicked" and played really well. Playing well they and ultimately Leo recieved more ice-time as well.

No, his ice time never increased in the POs, and all the players on his line ended the POs with the least ice time amongst Örebro's forwards. Which is one of the coach's fault: he rode the disappointments on the roster into the ground instead.

Carlsson himself stepped up in the POs, he likes playing those kind of games. Skellefteå had no answer to Carlsson (and by extension his line), so thankfully for them Eriksson did his best to keep him off the ice.

Do you think he'll be able to get a top-role this season? (if he stays)

RNH was a center during his rookie year. And Mackinnon wasn't a full time center in his rookie year, and it's probably likely that Carlsson would also spend some time on the wing. And you can add Crosby (who also was not a full time center) and Kane to that list if you go back to 2005-06.

Crosby F
Kane W
Skinner W
RNH C
Mackinnon F
McDavid C
Matthews C
Laine W

That's a pretty even mix of wings, full time centers, and guys who played a bit of both. I could see them starting him on the wing and then moving him over later in the year.

I thought so. With the pace of scoring increasing. A player in his draft year who produces 25 out of 44 in the Shl may be able to produce over 50 in his d+1 under ideal conditions.

I believe 40 to 45 points is realistic for Carlsson in NHL this year. For Anaheim that is a upgrade, whether he plays on the wing or center.

Killorn/Zegras/Vatrano
Henrique/McTavish/Terry
Carlsson/Lundestrom/Strome
Jones/Groulx/Silf.

Fowler/Gudas
?/Drysdale
LaCombe/Helleson

Gibson

I really doubt he hits 40-45 playing with Lundy and Strome. I know scoring is up but...I can't see it.

I was on team Fantilli pre draft, not because I thought he was significantly better but that he was a better fit for the Ducks. I thought Carlsson was a more plug and play that could work with more styles of players while Fantilli was more the style we needed.

The Ducks ended up drafting goal scorers who play defense, are big, fast, and physical. If two of these guys hit, they'll be perfect compliments for the core 4 forwards in Anaheim. After the draft, I feel a lot better about the Carlsson pick (not that I felt bad about it at the time). The Ducks have 4 versatile forwards now, if Carlsson can use his shot and goal scoring more, that's incredible balance up front.

That's what I'd expect from him as well if he plays in Anaheim.

I wouldn’t rush him. Ducks are going no where. Let him grow for a year and dominate a WJC. He’s too important for their future for foolishness and I hope Verbeek isn’t thinking he needs to validate his decision.

The only Swedish born player to play a full season in the NHL at 18 was Dahlin. He had an amazing 44 points in 82 games. After him it was Alex Nylander with 1 in 4; Fillip Forsberg with 1 in 5 and; Zibby with 1 in 9…

Let Leo marinate.

Landeskog had 52 in 82, E.Lindholm 21 in 58, Hedman 20 in 74, A.Larsson 18 in 65.

That's U19 seasons. Carlsson's D+1 is his U20 season, just like those I mentioned, hence they won't show up there.
We are splitting hairs but my point is there is no point in rushing him. His upper body wasn’t very thick as far as I could tell from the combine pics. If he blow them away in camp then fine but anything less should be a trip back home.
