He's definitely going to have some growing pains after playing wing at Michigan and for Canada the last few years, but I don't think he's looked out of place at center at all. His IQ and playmaking abilities should let him thrive if he can keep up physically.

I think Chinakov should be on the list as well, he was struggling point wise early on but when he was healthy he looked very good and constantly on the cusp of scoring.

Yeah could have added him

To the people who claimed Johnson was similar to Mittlestadt and Drouin, how do you feel now?

We have seen around 50 games of Johnson at the NHL level, so I think the sample size is large enough to get an idea of what his ceiling is.

He already has piled up 26 points (43 point pace), which is more than Mittlestadt has ever had in his career until this season. Obviously Drouin had some good seasons, but IMO, unlike Drouin, Kent Johnson has the ability to make those around him better.

So this is how blue jackets look with Johnson making the other players better? I can’t imagine how they would look if he didn’t.

Drop out half a roster from a rebuilding team and check for the results

2021 Johnson
2022 Jiricek
2023 Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson

Would be one helluva rebuild

What the absolute f*** is Pascal Vincent doing to this kid? The guy scores 40 points with pretty miserable opportunities last season. Top-5 pick with elite offensive credentials should have been walking into 18+ minutes of top-6 and PP1 minutes, but instead is scratched after getting pathetic third line usage. Claims it’s not a “punishment” - so not play related - but they need to open a spot for…Voronkov.

f*** this league and the universal misuse of Canadian prospects

So everyone drafted in the top 5 should just be handed minutes? KJ has been good but when you watch him next to Fantilli you realize that he has more to give.

KJ is definitely a different type of player than Fantilli but he's only been good compared to Fantilli who looks (and plays) like he's threat every time he touches the ice. KJ definitely has more to give. He's a young kid he'll get his opportunities.

Also you're really complaining about what the league does to Canadian prospects... Which make up the majority of the league... Lol

Having watched this kid from the BCHL, he needed to gain a lot more muscle to be an impact player in the NHL. Probably could have used a year or two in the AHL to get bigger.

But Columbus has a history of rushing prospects (Brule, Foudy, Filatov) so it's not surprising.

Without commenting on his draft status, the league has many different types of players in it and Vincent needs to realize that. Some guys like Fantilli and Jenner play a North/South game where they go to the physical areas of the ice and are more tenacious on checking. Others like Gaudreau and Fantilli play a more East/West game where they slow the play down, stretch the play out, and focus more on being ready for transition/attack than chasing a puckcarrier down.

Both have their place in the present NHL.

From listening to Vincents pregame it does sound like this is something similar to Carlsson honestly. He said they have a plan for him and they are thinking long term when he's 22, 23, 24.

Watching and studying the game from above isn't a bad thing in a young player development. You see your teammate, how they skate, their positioning and strenght/weakness at game speed.

Martin St-Louis used this approach with young players in Montreal and it's not bad. Having a plan to develop a player doesn't have to be straight forward, if they have a reason to scratch him, you should wait and see if it work.

Johnson has some things to clean up and he needs to get stronger. Anyone questioning Pascal Vincent has not been following the CBJ very closely this season. He's been nothing but consistent from the beginning in his expectations of the player(s).

You make it sound like there's some grand conspiracy to keep Canadian prospects down lol. You thought the Rangers were purposely trying to ruin Lafreniere, have you figured out yet that he's just not that good?

It's a good thing Leo Carlsson isn't Canadian you'd be throwing a fit.

Garbage. Gallant was a useless bumbling fool. Llafreniere had no chance to develop.

They are not making the playoffs. Play the young guys.
