its hilarious how much the Finnish fans want to tear Jack down. Literally EVERYONE was just speaking about Jack and how good he looked and then the insecure brigade had to check in

You guys can go party it up in your Kakko thread if you want. This is for Hughes discussion.
Yeah I don't get it. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I want Kakko to be really good too for the rivalry's sake. I want Devils-Rangers games to mean something.

I found these within 5 minutes from your GDT thread. It seems I wasn't just being homer Kakko fanboy when I implied he really wasn't amazing throughout the game and only showed his true capabilities after his first goal.

I get that it's annoying when guys like ijuka come talk about how Hughes skating sucks for the sake of it but not everyone are like him.

Jack looking lost in the defensive zone.

Hughes is a turnover machine.

I've seen Hughes get knocked around on every one of his shifts so far...

Maybe the Play Against Men joke isn't so much of an actual joke...

Gusev and Hughes shouldn’t be on the same line. As soon as they lose the puck in the zone it’s over

Hughes gonna learn today lol

Hughes with a couple ugly shifts. Bust?

Only complaint I have of Hughes is don't freaking just throw the puck up the middle half-ass in the defensive zone. He did that several times.

So far (after 20 minutes of pond hockey):

Gusev looks pretty intriguing. Probably gonna be 2nd line and 2nd PP?
Hughes is a bit lost... first game and all.
Subban is Subban.
Cory still looks a bit slow laterally, but it's still early.
Maltsev is pretty fun.
Wood is still a derp.
I wish Coleman were in this game instead of MTL.

Should've drafted a real man 1st overall :/

Are you serious with this post?

1. I came to address a comparison that made zero sense, and explained why.

2. Most of those comments you're quoting from the GDT aren't serious or genuine, they're parodying.

I don't think I even said that Hughes didn't have a good game. The reality just is that it was an all-AHL squad, only Vaakanainen might be an NHL player. That's merely stating a fact. If some people actually can't handle it... That's unfortunate. BTW, I'm not the one bringing up other players. Or posters.

I wasn't just talking about your recent actions. You do have your history.

dude like half of the posts you quoted are clearly sarcasm hahahaha. He had a rough start to the game, by the end of it he had played amazing. whats your point here?

Isn't that excactly what I said in my first post and yet people still called me out for saying those things as biased person since I'm from Finland? My point was to prove that, nothing more.

He had like two bad shifts and then proceeded to be one of the most dangerous players on the ice. He had a really good game.

Hughes talked about the first period being a feeling out process.

Same thing happened at the WC. Looked lost at first and by the end, had the highest impact relative to minutes played on the US roster. The kid is a quick learner and, if you give him enough minutes, the process accelerates. He's fine.

A couple more ideas to consider:

The extremes of the spectrum do not conform to the norms of the average. Talent evaluators in every field do not seem to understand this and they will keep missing out on the next Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, etc. because of it. Not suggesting Hughes is that kind of athlete - he's not. Just illustrating that expectations have to shift when someone is basically the only (or one of the few) player who has that basket of skills all high end - in this case, hands/speed/vision.

I got no dog in the fight anymore. Ranger fan, Hughes fan (not sure if that is even allowed anymore). But man ijuka i worry for your mental health if Hughes was to severely outplay Kakko. You have thrown every single last one of your eggs in Kakkos basket. If he doesnt perform, you will look extremely silly

Is it so difficult to avoid making it personal? If he's good, I'll watch him in many games because his playstyle, if good, is fun to watch. Same way I watch Matthews frequently. Then again, I'll watch Devils a lot anyway because they seem to have a really fun team to watch - thought so last season as well.

And sheesh, do you think I care about that? Say, do you think the comparison to Matthews was a good one, with the reasoning presented?

BTW, it's still not me bringing up other players.

Agreed. Nico-Nolan has been a bit of a bust so far, and it would be very entertaining to have a rivalry like Crosby-Ovie between two rivals like this.

so about that Hughes guy....

Looking forward to his next game.

Was practicing on a line with Hall and Palms today and doing powerplay work.

Would be fun to see those 3 together if Nico isn't between them.

I think I read Jack was also with Hall practicing overtime drills...that would be dynamic.

Strange. All I’ve heard about Jack’s skating is that it’s fantastic, especially his edge work, which they say is only second to McDavid.

This is not an attack towards Jack, nor is it anything negative, nor any other thread lock worthy ****, its my 100% honest opinion/prediction of Jack Hughes, so there's no reason for jumping on/off the walls, either you agree or disagree, simple as that, no reason for hate or **** like that. - i'm happy to be wrong and if i'am, then that day
i'll admit i was wrong, and remember, lets keep it clean so this thread stays alive -

______________________________________________________________

1. His style of play (his game) will not translate to the NHL
2. He is too soft to be successful in the NHL (nothing to do with his size)
3. His shot will be an issue at pro level
4. His hockey IQ/sense is not as great as people claim
5. His personality will be an issue at pro level

are you not ready to concede yet? Kakkos goal wasnt even a pre season official game. Devils had an exibition game but it was on NHL.com kakkos double circle was on some team in MN with MN jerseys on, with a 3 on 3 going on for reason i have yet to figure out?
