It's more about the level of opposition than the skills of the player per se, you don't get gifted free breakaways like that against serious defenses very often.

I don't think there is a single person who follows prospects with doubts that Jack Hughes can throw beautiful passes. That's nothing new

There Reunanen and Geertsen were playing like traffic cones, performing like that they'll never see a single game in the NHL. Playing against Skjei and Trouba there will be fewer opportunities with less time and less space, if they can find the chemistry to break that too with blind passes then they have surely passed the test. Today was at most a decent practice session for it.

Only pre-men play in the preseason. You get the regular men in the regular season. The real test is playing the post-men in the postseason.

Reunanen plays for Lukko in Finland, Geertsen is a 24-year-old free agent from the AHL, wearing a Rangers uniform for the preseason doesn't make them comparable to regular NHL defensemen. Never mind top pairing ones.
