It will be interesting where the Devils line him up. I don’t think wing will happen though. Not exactly a lot of room.

Hall and one of Bratt and Gusev will be top 6 LW with Palms and one of Bratt or Gusev on the right. I don’t really know where Gusev will fit best but it doesn’t matter too much as Bratt can play either side just fine.

Hughes will be so much better than Kakko. This is another Matthews vs Laine situation.... (not that they play similar) but the fact that everyone hyping the NHL ready plays with men prospect and the more skilled all around player will be better.

Are Devils really starting Hughes on center? What i've seen from today's game he's not ready yet. Would start him on wing for sure.

Not sure what you saw in today's game that would lead you to believe that - he struggled on faceoffs, as expected, but other than that he seemed to generally be in the right places at the right times.

Yeah of course he had his moments and will be deadly on pp but I think Aho route would be better for him. Let him play his skill game as a winger without the defensive responsibilities of a center for season and when he's stronger put him on center.

meh, he was too soft on the puck on some of his clearances but for the most part was good positionally. he'll learn to have better decisions with the puck in the defensive end.

I disagree, we have two other centermen to help shelter him. Hischier will face the tougher assignments, and Zajac will devour minutes like he always has. It's not like Hughes is being expected to carry the team as a #1 center here.

Will Hall play with Hischier or Hughes in that scenario? Would love to see those 3 on OT together at some point.

Expectation is that Hall and Hischier will play together again. Hughes appears to be paired up with Gusev.

I think the conventional wisdom is that it is tough to start a guy on the wing and then go back to center. If they want him to ever be a center they might as well embrace the early days being rough and hope they get a stud in the middle as the reward. I agree though I do think he has tremendous upside on the wing that could realize itself far sooner versus playing center.
