Wow looked like he got boarded pretty bad but did a great job staying with the play to score. He does a great job getting his stick in passing lanes and disrupting other players.

Edit: Just set up another great play but neither of his teammates could finish in tight.

Game highlights

Honestly, that was one of his weaker games I've seen. Still made a few standout plays, and ended up with 2 goals.

It seemed like he really made it a point to start playing a bit harder after he took that hit.

Eichel is back on NBCSN. First intermission of the Hockey East Championship with BU leasing UMass-Lowell 2-1. Eichel with 1g,1a. Fortunate bounces on both but he's playing well.

Honestly, from everything I have seen... for players like Eichel, the two-goal "looked quiet" games just offset games like the Beanpot where he was terrific but had a grand total of 1 assist.

Totally agree. He was awesome tonight. Was really skating well. Anyone who doubts that he is a legitimate contender for the top pick needs to watch tonight's game.

I got Jack Eichel's game worn retro Team USA WJC U20 jersey. Won it on NHL Auctions. Cost me a pretty penny, but I figure it's a safe bet. :)

Who do you guys who watch the USDP/USHL think will be better long term - Eichel or Matthews?

They have nearly identical #'s in both the USNTDP and US National U18 team.

To me, Eichel's skating is the big difference. He will be one of the best skating forwards in the NHL.

That could be worth a ton of money someday.

And damn at that goal above. This guy is way too good for College. I know it's irrelevant but I like his skillset more than the other 1st overalls dating back to Tavares. He just seems to know what to do with the puck and where to push on the ice. Wicked smaht

Watched the weekend games. Super smooth skating, though it looks like he doesn't even put 100% into it. I'm trying to figure out if he can match Mackinnon for speed.

I really think he will. He gets through the neutral zone in a handful of strides. He makes everyone else look like their standing still.

But it is tough to gauge Eichel's speed, because he is so smooth. Guys like McDavid and MacKinnon are not only great skaters, but they look fast because they are moving their feet more. And I think that part of Eichel's game is what makes him harder to defend. With less strides, defenders essentially are getting less information per foot traveled, so are not able to project his trajectory as well.

Eichel, I think, but that's not a diss on Matthews. Like someone else said, I think Eichel's explosiveness takes him to a different level.

At this point you have to take Eichel, but keep in mind Matthews is still a year behind in development. He could become a much more explosive skater. He's got Eichel beat on hands and vision.

Mathews is not even close to Eichels skating, hands , vision or shot period !

Again, not a dis on Mathews but Eichel is in a class by himself amongst US players with nobody even close within the last 5 or so years.

A year? Isn't Matthews like 3 days too young to be in this draft? Why? Is the September 15 cut off used at other levels?

Thanks in advance
