....Eichel will be the better player than Tavares

No joke.

Kinda seems like your the only one who thinks otherwise, which kinda makes your post funny.

Bzzt, try again. Tavares had a higher NHLe at age 16 than Eichel had at age 18. Eichel is just a notch below Tavares.

I watch videos on these two on a regular basis as they were just so much better than anyone else around them. Agree with the Getzlaf comparison, just more explosive and maybe a bit less use of his body around corners.
I think this is pretty accurate. I'd say Eichel is Getzlaf like, with a much better shot and much better speed. I can't say about size because Eichel is only 18/19 right now and we don't know what his man size will be. But Getzlaf is a pretty big, strong man. Eichel might end up slightly less sizable and slightly less powerful, but I don't know, we'll see.

He reminds me more of a Tyler Seguin than a Getzlaf. Getzlaf is a horse down low but Eichel is just really well-rounded, he can do everything- play in transition, battle on the boards. He's definitely the 2nd best prospect since Crosby (after McDavid). He can be as good as he wants to be.

Scoring goals in close is literally the only thing Tavares does better than Eichel.
Tavares also has better hands, better hockey sense, and better playmaking ability. Eichel might have a better shot and skating ability. I would say Tavares is also more gritty because he goes to the dirty areas with consistent effort, Eichel is inconsistent in his effort. Sometimes he hunts for the puck or floats by waiting for it pop out. Let's not forget about leadership, Tavares is a great mature leader. Eichel has some questions.

So if Eichel is currently better than Tavares at shooting, passing, skating, Hockey IQ etc. then I guess you would take Eichel this season over Tavares? Cause that's the implication of your post....and that's ridiculous.

Obviously Tavares has more NHL experience than Eichel though so it would be foolish to compare this season.

Sabres fan that doesn't care about the HF grade. Both he and McDavid will have the shrink removed soon enough. We will get to see them play in the NHL and it will be awesome.

This has been the longest summer ever.

I just want NHL, NFL, and EPL to start. I'm done with this weather.

As someone who was luke warm on Eichel for most of the build up to the draft, I am really starting to like this kid. He looks like he has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. In any video interview or photo of him, he just has this serious look on him, like all he wants to do is kick some ass and prove what he is all about. I actually think being drafted in the same draft as McDavid and constanlty being compared to him, is the best case scenario for Eichel. He is going to be a treat to watch!

We are talking about when drafted.

Some (or many) Sabres fans legitimately believe that Eichel is a step above Tavares as a prospect.....

No joke.
I believe this too. And I am an Oilers fan.

Now none of this years crop may hit the heights of Tavares. But from what I have seen of Eichel, I certainly believe the potential is there. Not a lock to surpass, but the potential is there. he's a top level talent with some pretty superior speed.

The only valid point you make is about Eichel's effort; except he's a teenager. So that can easily be corrected.

Leadership? Did you put your magical leadership gauge up to your TV to get each player's ratings in that category or something???

I hate the heat, too.

So many people say, "I love the summer and the heat", yet, when I exercised today, there was NO ONE out. All the people who "love the heat" are inside with the A/C on. :shakehead

Seems like some people at hf agree with me that he is on par, not above.

I disagree. I think the people at HF have a rating system that is so confusing it even confuses them. Eichel's grade is a 9.0 B. So you read the description of what that means and for a B it says that the player has holes in his game that could cause him to fall a grade. Fair enough. So you go back to Eichel's page and read his player description to read what holes he has in his game that could cause him to fall a grade and.......... whoops. No holes in his game are described. Seems like the people at HF either didn't read their player description of Eichel close enough or like everybody else they forgot what the hell the letter grade is supposed to represent in the first place.

Tavares and Eichel are about as close as they can be. I only took Tavares because he's Canadian, but it can go either way.

If effort can easily be corrected then every player would be putting as much effort as they could. It's not something you can just teach, some have that much determination, some don't. Effort isn't like shooting where you can practice.

Look at how Tavares carries himself, then how Eichel carries himself. It's not like Eichel is carrying himself in a negative way, Tavares is just much more mature and carries himself to a higher level which raises his own team.

Yeah, Eichel didn't take BU anywhere last year. Maybe if he slouched a bit more he wouldn't be perceived as a miscreant.

I really don't take juniors/college seriously when it comes to this discussion. The best player gets 30 mins of ice-time and the 4th liners get like 5. Also, being the best player doesn't say anything about your leadership abilities. At the World Juniors he was getting upset when he didn't get the puck from his teammates and even posters on here said he was trying to do too much by himself and not using his teammates enough. Not having confident in your teammates doesn't sound like what a good leader does.

I think he's going to be the best player in the league. *not a Sabres fan*

I see flashes of Lemieux and Kovalchuk....not saying he is going to be Lemieux but wow what a package.

Where did this Eichel doesn't give enough effort thing come from? It's pretty out of left field for me.
I don't think he gives enough effort consistently. Sometimes he hunts for the puck, other times he will float and wait for the puck to come to him.
