One of my favorite major junior players ever, and easily my favorite Wildcat. I still question his top end scoring potential, but will never question anything else about Barbashev. He's Russian but plays a "North American" game as well as you can get. Perfect 3rd line Center with 2nd line Center potential. I'll be rooting for him.

Seems like at very worst he'll be a dependable third line center and hopefully he can become a good second line C. Would be excellent news for us, especially if we can rid ourselves of the Lehtera contract and use that money for upgrades elsewhere.

Liking the Yak Barbasehv Pajarvi combo, thats a solid 4th line. Can catch a lot of teams of guard with the kind of creativity thats coming from that line.

He took some shifts with Tarasenko, Barbashev doesn't look out of place in the NHL

why in the second round Jayce Hawryluk and Brendan Lemieux were taken before him? when he fell to the second round i was sure he'd go first. still don't understand it.

Why Pastrnak was taken 25, after Bleakley and McCann?

Not sure, Goldobin who's typical boom or bust prospect was taken in the first.
I believe the scouts questioned Barbashev's offensive skills, he's was actually considered a non-typical russian guy :). I was surprised he wasn't taken earlier though. But not that surprised as Buchnevich being a 75 pick year before, I was sure Detroit will pick him with 58 pick, if he wasn't selected before.

I believe he fell due to scouts being concerned about his offensive game in the NHL.

I don't think that worried anyone since he went the CHL route. I think it was just like with Fabbri. He's not the hugest guy and he wasn't an absolute head-turner in juniors so he got a little under rated compared to some guys with more shiny looking toolsy upside with which scouts fall in love.

Fabbri fell due to his size, his offensive abilities were never in question. Barbashev's was. I didn't see it as I saw a high skilled industrious player in Barbashev. He stalled out in his 1st year as a pro but hit the ground running year 2. His NHL career so far has been fantastic. I dont expect him to be an elite player but he looks like the same player from Juniors (style wise).

I think one of the issues scouts saw with Barbashev is that he doesn't appear to stick handle or shoot with extreme quickness. That can be interpreted as having weaker skills, but his hands are actually pretty soft and he has terrific hand-eye in front of the net. Those are more important pro skills. Kind of reminds me of ROR or Bergeron in that way.
