How about we leave the CHL vs KHL talk for that thread and let this thread be about the player it's supposed to be about?

Mods?

Imo, some CHL Vs. KHL talk is inevitable in these kind of cases, still I would like to encourage everyone to keep it in the course of discussing Rubtsov, not Yakupov Vs. Tarasenko and similar stuff.

By the way, do I understand corectly that both Roy and Zhukenov won't be in the juniors next year, so Rubtsov will have his #1 center position?

Well if he is eligible for AHL...

Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if Chicoutimi trades him though if he's back next year. Their roster is setup that this year is their year to do something. So they made trades at the deadline for this year knowing they're going to lose a lot of their talent for next year sans Rubtsov. I'd imagine they'd trade him sometime next year to recuperate some picks/younger players going forward.

Looking pretty good in his debut (sry if it's already been posted):

I'm thinking very highly on him. A little more skilled Anisimov?

He might be more skilled than Anisimov was at the same age, but... [MOD]

He chose the coward path of playing in the CHL so he's a bust.

Yep, professionals doing what is in the best interest of themselves and not for their country( say that lightly)is being a coward. This isn't war, it's hockey. The biggest goal generally for any player is to make it to the best league, which is by far the NHL.

He did what he and his agent feel are the best for his development.

I was being sarcastic because of the prior posts... one having been edited by a moderator.

I like Rubstov and couldn't care less what team he plays for as long as it allows him to progress.

The biggest goal is to become a better player not making some league. There is a difference. Coincidentially it is what is besz for the country.

I can guarantee his goal is to make the NHL, and he believes that is by going to the CHL like other recent successful players such as Kucherov, Provorov, Barbashev, etc.

Can't blame him, it develops the most NHL players for a reason.

Greer got the same "cowardice" stuff thrown at him when he left the NCAA for the Q last season. But given the monumental rise he's experienced in the past year, that culminated in the teenager appear at the AHL Allstar game this past weekend, that argument seems to be moot in hindsight.

Dropping to a "lower league" to get playing time and confidence can be enormous for a kid's development.

2g 6a in 5 games...1st star last night....looks like he's becoming a better player.

Or he's playing against much weaker competition.

It's interesting that most of these kids (well, not Rubtsov, as he had good stats in Russia too) had not many points in the MHL, then they do score a lot in Canada and still say that the CHL is MUCH better (намного лучше/уровень намного выше) than MHL.

better for developing in preparation for the NHL

MHL is more for small skill players than for players with NHL style upside

People gave Coyle the same crap too leaving NCAA for the Q.

Part of it is that MHL is a lower scoring league than the Q. Lowest scoring in Q is 2.61 right now... that would be 13th worst in the MHL of 31 teams.

Also ofc depends on the team though too...

Scoring PPG on Vityazi, who average 2.68 GPG, would be like scoring ~1.3 PPG on teams like Kuznetskie Medvedi, Belye Medvedi and Mamonty Yugry.

And when he was there the team were averaging 2.4 GPG... as their two best forwards apart from Rubtsov missed time injured at that point.

When he was on Vityazi he contributed directly to 41.67% of his teams goals.

Will be interesting to compare that to the % he is directly involved in on Chicoutimi at the end of the season. He is at 50% right now I believe.

The same thing happens in the USHL & I wouldn't really take much from it. The CHL on average are higher scoring leagues by a fair margin over the MHL & USHL. You're playing against better players for your age group but you're also playing alongside better players too.

After you're drafted in the CHL there's really no other options outside of the NHL for 18-20 year old seasons. In the USHL you often move on to the NCAA or CHL. The MHL you might move on the VHL, KHL, or CHL. So those leagues older talent bases can suffer way more than it does in the CHL. I think that's really the difference as well as the CHL plucking kids from Canada & USA along with some Overseas based players.
