Thank you for the post. To date this has been a very bumpy year for him. When it is all said and done, playing in the Q and living in Canada should speed up the process and help the young man. This is not a knock on Russia.

Three days after the holiday season closed, Yanick Jean had summoned the media to take stock of the new acquisitions of the team.

"From the way we worked with the hockey staff in the last year, we sat down last Christmas at Christmas and then we knew there would be a decision to be made: to exchange Nicolas Roy, Frédéric Allard and Julio Billia or to surround them to make the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, a team much more competitive, "launched Yanick Jean from the outset.

Still according to the coach, the team's supporters have been waiting for a long time to see a team that had the potential to compete with the leaders. It is in this perspective that he acquired Joey Ratelle, the twins Kevin and Kelly Klima in addition to adding German Rubtsov to reinforce the top 6 in the attack, a facet of the club that had become Priority # 1 as the campaign progressed.

"The record with Nicolas Roy in the lineup confirmed to us without a shadow of a doubt that it was worth improving our team for the second half of the season," said the Sags driver admitting that the prize To pay for an attacking attacker was too high during the draft and early season.

After having garnished his first two trios, the general manager had to add a general to the blue line to play big minutes with Frédéric Allard and allow the Sags to stand against the best teams of the circuit Courteau which motivated the arrival of 'Olivier Galipeau at the end of the trading period.

"It's a player who, from the beginning of his junior training, played between 25 and 30 minutes even at the age of 16 and 17 years. I saw him play 35 or 36 minutes during a game this year. It is a player who can play so many minutes with great efficiency "- Y. Jean

The Chicoutimians rounded out the season by fetching defender Kody Gagnon from the Moncton Wildcats. Regarding Gagnon, Jean said that his addition will add a bit of muscle to his defensive brigade and at the same time add depth.

The Rubstsov case

After several months of negotiations, the first choice of the Sags in the last European draft, German Rubtsov, will play in Chicoutimi for the rest of the season. However, fans will have to wait to see the first choice of the Flyers in action since they will have their nose operated following an injury at the last World Junior Championship.

On the other hand, the news is encouraging in the case of Rubtsov since he will join his new team in the day of Friday and could be in uniform on 19 January when the Sags will be visiting Halifax.

It should be noted that the Russian is not a loan by KHL and that his contract with his European club is broken. As the Sags driver explains, Rubtsov will end the season with the Sags and the Flyers will make the final decision next season (Sags, AHL, NHL)

Has 2 assists so far playing as a winger.

Ofc only one game, but he has looked reeeeeeeeeeally good.

Has created ~3 scoring chances for himself too, toe-dragged past a Dman and fired just hit, tipped one that forced nice save, one-timer that was saved. And set up Zhukenov for a nice one-time chance he put wide.

It's only one game, but the transition to playing in the Q looked seamless after game 1; he was easily one of the best players on the ice with guys like Roy and Hischier. I can only imagine how liberating it felt to be playing top line minutes, on Roy's LW, and on the top PP against his own peers at this level. 6 shots (all 6 listed as high danger chances), he was setting up his teammates, and showed off his versatile skill-set offensively while being dedicated as usual defensively. As strong as he and Roy are forechecking and cycling, they'll be a pain in the butt together.

The shift to shift consistency was terrific too, and it'd be hard to separate one from another, but in overtime he had a beast shift where he covered for the d man, got the puck back, did a bunch of powerful crossover strides and just burned the Halifax players for a partial breakaway before getting another breakaway in the same shift (first part is in the video). It's good to see his talent out itself in a good situation. Perhaps tomorrow he gets traded for a 7th rounder as a ruined prospect, but today was good ;)

Really hoping he will be switched to center soon, as I think he needs to start working on face-offs already now, otherwise it might become a big issue for him next year (especially if there is a chance he might be moved to AHL).

Wow he looks fantastic in the clip. Was not expecting that from what I've read.

Wouldn't make any sense seeing how Nicolas Roy is a great #1C.

Was at the game last night, came away very impressed with Rubstov by the end of it... especially considering it was his first game in the Q. His PP assists weren't really noteworthy, but he was dangerous all night and more dynamic than I expected. Looked really good with the puck on his stick and, for the most part, backchecked well.

Aside from a few long shifts and a couple positional issues (completely understandable given switch to wing, first game with a new system, and language barrier) he had a great game - I thought for sure he was putting it away on that overtime breakaway.

Rubtsov is a natural C who needs to work on his faceoff skills is he not?
So he's finally getting playing time in the Q but they play him out of position. Damn, the kid can't catch a break this year.

Positive side though is that he's playing on the first line with Nicolas Roy. When you add in special teams he's probably going to be playing over 25 minutes on most nights there.

I'd imagine he'll play center next if he's back the Q. I'd have to imagine he's probably on a different team too given that Chicoutimi pretty much loses everybody of notoriety on their current team for next year.

I really doubt he'll be in the AHL as a 19 year old and playing center. If he was, he'd get eaten alive on faceoffs, as well as not get a chance to play much on the PP.

This is the ideal case. Big minutes now with Roy, traded to another contender next year as 1C. Definitely no need to push him to the AHL. He might even be NHL ready after one more year in Jr, plus WJC, possible MemCup, if he fills out a bit more.

Wasn't he a center in the MHL/KHL? So then the argument is that North Americans are better teachers of FOs.

Glad he got his 1st goal out of the way and is playing well to start his Q season. he probably feels like a lot of weight has been lifted off now that he can playing offensive minutes instead of just defensive ones.

Think Chicoutimi put him on 1LW to give him self-confidence. This is very tough season for Rubtsov, he want get a taste of goals & points. And it will be enough for first time.
But later they must put him on C. Flyers drafted him to perspective 2C i Think. Giroux-Rubtsov-Couturier-???
