So how are you liking his tournament so far? 0+0 and 0 shots on goal. By far the weakest forward on the team.

Summary:

* Zero successful euros for Philly since year 2002 (Pitkanen)

* Rubstov should be blowing up in this tournament, but won't be.

* Rubstov should be blowing up in Russian Juniors, but he barely is.

* Please watch his WJC games and decide for yourself whether this kid is going to make it or not.

Expecting him to "blow up this tournament" is foolish. It's an accomplishment to even make the team at this age, especially the Russian team where they heavily favor 19 year olds. Next year his role will be different and he'll be expected to produce but that's not his job this year any anyone actually watching him play would know that, which is why you don't.

Between Rubtsov, Lindblom, Vorobyov, Kase, Hagg, Sandstrom, Hogberg, Bernhardt....and you don't even have to include Provorov and Fazleev drafted out of the CHL....this has been an organizational change a few years in the making under Hextall. Flyers scouting has been phenomenal under Hextall, in North America and indeed Europe.

This is exactly what I was saying in October. There is nothing to see there.

Check Florida's Borgstrom for another oddity. 1st rounder, why exactly?

I would wait a few years before patting yourself on the back. These types of posts usually lead to someone looking extremely silly in 3 years usually the guy making the bold predictions! BTW go watch some of the CHL vs Russia games and you will see some NHL level skill whether he shows it in this tournament or not really depends on opportunity and as of yet he hasn't really had any. I'm not sold either way on Rubstov but the upside is there whether he's committed to reaching it consistantly is up to the player but to be suggesting he's a bust when many experts claim he was one of the gems in the draft is comical after what 6 months. Kid needs to fill out (gain some lower body strength) and improve his skating (decent skater but could use a little more burst imo if he wants to become a top 6 forward in the NHL). He's got great hands, good patience with the puck and he definitely is a responsible player in his own end (he doesn't jump the play from what i've seen). Time will tell!

I'll get hate for saying this but I think Russia/KHL is no longer a good environment for prospects to develop. First Guryanov and now him. It's clear that the expectations are too high in the KHL for these rookies and when these prospects are not where the coaching staff expects them to be, icetime isn't given. Prospects like Rubstov are probably better off playing in the Swiss, Swedish or Finnish leagues if they are not ready to come to North America.

It really comes down to the KHL is not a development league. It's a professional league. And for Rubstov, he is not ready for big minutes in the league right now. And really, a professional coach has no obligation to play him.

And that's what most Flyers fans are saying. Hell, lots feel he should go to the CHL to get lots of icetime against his peers, then possibly play in the KHL next year when his body is more developed.

It's not a Russia vs NA thing. We just want him to get lots of icetime against the best competition he can handle. It seems like the CHL or VHL is ideal this year.

Rubtsov is youngest player on this russian team (alongside with Sergachev) and yet he gets the hate? Ridiculous.

lol, this comment is out to lunch, and can't be more wrong.

Rubtsov gets very little ice-time 5on5, and no PP time, he sees a lot time on the PK, and he does just well. It's okay tournament for him given the usage he gets from Bragin.

Hell, it's accomplishment that he's even on the team as Russians don't like to take players who are under 19. They clearly sees him as a very important player for them, who will get the epxerience this year and in the next year, he should be one of the top players who they will rely on as 19 years old.

Get some context folks and stop being so blatantly ignorant.

Why wasn't he destroying the Russian Junior League?

Great news. I like it a lot for Rubtsov. It will be good for him to get acclimated in NA, improve his language, get to know NA style of play etc. He will have russian teammate to help him out there. The Chicoutimi is not the greatest team but they should improve now with Rubtsov, Nicolas Roy is also there, Zhukenov, Allard or newly also Klima brothers, who are solid junior players in QMJHL.

Before first comments from some russian fans.

Atleast our guy will stay in North America, you may get 3 years of bottom 6 play out of him.

lol, Josefson is 4th liner, nobody cares about him at this point.

Wouldn't be surprised if Rubtsov became solid 2nd line C, in some way similar to someone like Bryan Little, or very good 3rd line C. He has the talent to become impact player. We have the lottery card in him.

Josefson is finished product, became average 4th liner and might be headed out of NHL sooner than later.
