Prospect Info: Marlies, Cyclones, and Prospect Discussion

Who said anything about surprise?

The claim was we didn't draft Cs. We did draft Cs. They just haven't amounted to anything yet
So, we have Minten who may be a 3rd line C someday and Holinka who again looks bottom 6. Our best bet is to try and upgrade Tavares who will vanish once paid. We aren't even a young team with almost every player post prime. Few players have much left at 30. When you look a couple of seasons out, they will suck with few prospects to take their jobs.

It's the normal cycle most teams go through.

I personally would look to move on from Tavares I rather pay a young player on the incline second line center money I am not paying Tavares 7 mill we don’t save anything paying him that giving marner an increase and accounting for mccabes pay bump wolls extension kiccin in and knies outstanding contract this team can’t look the same next year it’s impossible

A bit surprised he hasn't been noisy about it.

Question for you people...if Steeves was given the same runway as Robertson has been given, how different do you think their stats look this year?

Robertson has been given too much leash. Really not sure what he brings anymore

Give Steeves a long look. He could be another gem like McMann. Maybe he won't but worth a shot

So we use who as 2nd line centre, Minten? I like the kid, but having a 2nd line centre likely to score 10 goals is a recipe for disaster.

Did you miss the part about not paying Tavares and finding a 2c that’s younger and improving to pay

Then the process should be pay market rate for a center who can or projects or is trending towards being a 2nd. line center and trade for him, paying market rate.

Play him as many minutes as they can give him and then in the summer when negotiating with Tavares deal from a position of strength if that new forward looks like he can replace him.

If they go into summer without that center, they will overpay.

Of course that means giving up assets you might not want to land that 2nd. line center.

The question being, where do you find a 2C that's younger, and still improving? ...and available.

Being available is a rare occurrence. Maybe a player who isn't happy where they are, or one who we believe could be better elsewhere. I guess that's a guy like Dylan Cozens, who might be available from Buffalo. He'd cost a ton, and I'm not sure that we have what Buffalo would want... but he fits the bill.

Or what about Trevor Zegras... I mean this kid has struggled, but he's also shown he can play at a high level.

Or do we look for kids who have underperformed, but appeared to have the capability of being better than they have so far... like Krebs.

Each has their own risk... Can they rebound, or can they reach their potential... clearly a guy like Cozens is the least risk, but the most expensive in every way. Krebs might be the most risk, but is the cheapest in every way.

Are there other young names that could be due a change of scenery? I'd love to go with a younger guy, over a declining older player.

Anyone know if Minten and or Grenyonkin will be in the lineup tomorrow? I’m heading down with my class for the TDSB Marlies game! Hoping to catch them live. Excited for it.

Do we have the requisite picks to maybe look at offer sheeting someone? I don't even know what the parameters are in terms of contract size anymore. Where's the line where what we're giving up is too much of a gamble?

Treliving says he talks all the time.

My guess he knows who is available much more than insiders who get fed self serving information.

For a CENTER:

Offering:
Minten and Cowan
1st. in 2026
Cap Balancing Assets

Expectation:
Under 28
Experienced 2nd. liner
or
Under 26
Experienced 3rd. liner with highly probable upside

Reasoning:
Long term center, rendering Minten less critical for the next 4+ years.
Tavares ask now becomes "we already have a 2nd. line center, so let's negotiate your future here in Toronto."

I'm not talking depth guys like Gourde or Laughton, nor broken down guys holding on by a thread like Monahan.

This site has a tool to help out. Long story short though, we don't have our First, second, third or fourth this year or our second and fourth next year so we can't make any offers that need compensation of any sort.
