He's the most likely centre to drop to Torontos spot (out of Lazar, Horvat, Wennberg, Domi, and Gauthier).

Kind of what I was thinking. Leafs need another center prospect and one with size at that. I don't know much about this kid but is he another Joe Colborne? meaning, a project because of his size?

He's already a solid player, the question will be about his offensive upside.

The Outer Limits.
There's going to be a lot of centers available at 13, you sure you'd take him before Horvat, Domi, Wennberg, and Lazar?

I think I would. If Gauthier's offensive game never develops more than say that of Martin Hanzal, I'd still be happy with the pick because he is already a good enough player in the other aspects of the game.

Horvat's playoff has given me more to think about, but I still like Gauthier. I don't see Domi as a center in the NHL and am just not sold on Lazar. Haven't seen enough of Wennberg to comment.

Over on the JETS board the Draft poll was conducted and both Gauthier and Zadorov were tied with the same amount of votes. After a tie breaker, it was Gauthier who won.

If it improves are aggressive and continue to produce offensively ... I compare it to Jordan Staal. Same size and same weight many comparable reliability.

Taking into consideration that the Rimouski Oceanic will power the CHL next year. It could be very promising to DG'S eyes and be drafted very early.

Jealous of the Leafs. Got excited when he wasn't pick at 20. Thought we had a chance. Oh well.

No worries bud, Anaheim got a solid player in Theodore as well.

And with Ducks way of developing d-man, he will hopefully become a very good top 4 d-man.

On the side note, I know many people are going to compare Gauthier to our own Joe Colborne( who doesn't have much upside and time to become a legit NHL player) but there is one big difference between the two.

Gauthier is/was miles ahead of Colborne in terms of defensive acumen.

Colborne is more of a floater in his own zone oftenly compare to Gauthier who makes commitment in his own end.

Gauthier is a lot faster also, people who have said he looks slow just haven't seen him play..Gauthier can skate, he's the defensive player of the year, he's one hell of a big guy, a solid pick for us. And he's still growing as well, he could be closer to 6 ft 6 when he fills out. Love the pick.

Gauthier is quite a bit ahead of Colborne at the same age too.

Underwhelming pick. Shinkaruk is a better player now and will be going forward.

Shinkaruk has a lousy attitude from what I know about him. He didn't want to play for the Flames and I know for a fact that he asked a girl to come to the draft with him and she turned him down because he is a goof.

Would have much rather had Shinkaruk, was looking forward to drafting shinkaruk for 2 years now, was a heartbreak to pick gauthier (who knows nothing about the nhl) than one of my fav prospects in shinkaruk

Hopefully this third liner with bad skating won't disappoint

It was a pick that often came up in the mocks so wasn't that surprised when the Leafs selected him.

Certainly like the defensive ability and the fact that he can skate well with that size. Just have to see if the offensive abilities develop.

Yeah big guys look really slow even though some are really fast. Kopitar comes to mind.. looks like hes skating in sand but blows by everyone.
