Satisfied with his development thus far. Wins Gold at the WJC in his final year of jr, onto the Marlies for a year or two. Let him develop and see how he turns out.

This kid is the future, he's a selkie calibre centre with size. watching him reminds me of Kopitar with better defence and a little less offense.

So you probably didn't watch the Gold Medal Game

This, I definatly wasnt impressed with him through the WJC. But boy in the third period of a tight gold medal game, I sure loved what he brought. He played a significant part in winning that game, especially in the third.

Oh my,

I'm a leafs fan too but you need to dial it back a bit, actually more then a bit.

He has a long way to go to even become a solid third liner. My hopes are a good 4th line centre who kills penalties and can keep the puck out of his own net. Basically what he was on the WJC team.

I can't tell if you're joking or not, but if serious, this is insanity. The kid looks like Steckel to me, MAYBE Gaustad if he pans out incredibly well, but I don't see it personally. I do think he has a shot to make the NHL, but in a pretty limited role, he is simply not very talented at all with the puck, and I think his skating/quickness will make it difficult for him to keep up with the pace of the NHL game in a defensive role.

The Hanzal comparisons are insane enough (I would bet literally anything on him never being that good), but comparing him to Kopitar is just next-level delusion.

I watched the entire tournament.

The most impressive Canadians were Reinhart, Domi, McDavid, Lazar, Nurse, Morrissey, Duclair, Fucale in that order for me. Gauthier didn't really come close to making my list, I just don't see a high end player out of him, possibly a checking line center if he pans out.

He looks to me like a Kopitar-Bergeron hybrid but with more size. Such a steal that late in the first round, glad we drafted for elite level skill instead of just taking a grinder with our pick.

He's on pace for around 30g. Not bad if you ask me

He's on pace for around the same point totals as he had when he was 17. Being around 60 points when you're on the top team in the league and getting key minutes is not very impressive.

I can safely say that Gauthier will never be a player you look for to put up any kind of numbers.

I really can't tell if this is sarcasm, can someone clarify for me? I've seen too many outlandish but realistic posts to believe anything is sarcasm these days.

Personally, I see him as Ryan Kesler on steroids. I see him getting 80 points in the NHL. Frederik GOATier.

PPG two years out from your draft is quite bad from an offensive standpoint. Sure, he looks great defensively, but the Leafs dont need another Winnik, McClement, Steckel, etc to improve the team defensively. They need an elite two-way forward who can provide elite shutdown ability on one of the top lines.

Unfortunately, Gauthier at this point isnt showing that kind of upside.

People underrating him so much, he's in the mould of Ryan Getzlaf but better defensively, we haven't seen anyone this big be this skilled. There's a reason he led the WJC in scoring.

You have to remember that hes playing huge minutes but they are all defensive situations and PK. His offensive output may be limited but for a guy who sees no PP time or starts in the OF zone they aren't horrible. To be honest its actually promising that his points stayed constant despite tougher assignments. I'm sure his PPG would be well over What it was at 17 if he stayed in the same sheltered role much like other high scoring players in the CHL.

...or he just doesn't have offensive skills. I'm going with that theory.
