Oh look, Hfboard posters are proclaiming another leaf prospect bust, how cute. :sarcasm: How's the last one doing? Iirc that bust has 119 pts in 166 gms over the last 3 NHL seasons and is one of the top possession players on his NHL team.

He looked great during the WJC. I really dont get why some people are calling him a bust, he looked like a really good future bottom 6 players that every team would be happy to have. Could be a mix of Hanzal/Boyle kind of player.

He's on pace for around the same point totals as he had when he was 17. Being around 60 points when you're on the top team in the league and getting key minutes is not very impressive.

I can safely say that Gauthier will never be a player you look for to put up any kind of numbers.

Off from the Gaudreau thread, on to the Gauthier thread, eh? :naughty:

PPG for a guy who wasn't drafted for his offense is good with me. He also misse training camp and the beginning of the season with injury and was rusty (like any player in any league is), so that lead to a pretty slow start. Take a look at his totals the last few weeks ;)

You're using a 17 game sample size... doesn't work that way.

Why so salty? The first reply wasn't enough? Well we're talking about this season, so I'm not sure what other sample size you want me to use :s

Yeah, you Leaf fans are so correct and not outlandish at all saying hes a "little less offensive but more defensive Kopitar". Just pure nonsense.

Ya...and your not outlandish for attributing the claim of probably one person, if that (you use quotations, rather than quote an actual post...how convenient), to the entire Leaf fan base. Pretend objectivity at its finest, that's as pure as nonsense gets.

Wow, someone's sarcasm detector is broken. Relax man, Leaf fans were just making fun of the Gauthier bashers that invaded this thread.

You have to remember that hes playing huge minutes but they are all defensive situations and PK. His offensive output may be limited but for a guy who sees no PP time or starts in the OF zone they aren't horrible. To be honest its actually promising that his points stayed constant despite tougher assignments. I'm sure his PPG would be well over What it was at 17 if he stayed in the same sheltered role much like other high scoring players in the CHL.

Gauthier plays in all situations for Rimouski, including tons of 5-5 and PP minutes. The guy just is not good offensively, at all.

I actually don't see anyone here calling him a bust. He was drafted to be a defensive 3rd/4th line centre and that's exactly what he looks like he will be. People are just questioning the use of a 1st round pick on a guy who really had little upside to begin with.

I thought he was only a potential 4th line centre.... You've upgraded a tad.

He looks to me like a Kopitar-Bergeron hybrid but with more size. Such a steal that late in the first round, glad we drafted for elite level skill instead of just taking a grinder with our pick.

Personally, to me, he looks like a Malkin-Toews hybrid. Great size like Malkin and the way he protects the puck and his shot are elite. He has the intangibles, leadership and sky-high IQ of Toews. I think at minimum we can expect an 85-90 point, two-way, captain material player for the Leafs. Great pick for the Leafs!

I was pointing out what he was drafted to be. I personallly don't see him ever beeing higher than a 4th line centre as he does not have enough offense and unless he greatly improves his first few steps then he doesn't have the speed either.

Oh I know, you've made it clear about 50 times.

He's on pace for around 30g. Not bad if you ask me

That puts him on a pace that would not be one of the top 100 goal scorerd at the CHL level, despite being one of the older players.

Players can score 50+ at this level and never be an offensive force at the next level, 30 is really peanuts.

At 19 years old Bergeron played in the WJC and was one of the most dominant player ever.

I liked Gauthier at 17 years old but his lack of improvement start to really worry me.

Did you miss the 3rd period of the gold medal game? Gauthier hardly ever came off the ice and was a defensive monster. If that doesn't qualify as one of the most dominant performances I don't know what does.

Oh look, another ******** Leafs hater - resorting to attacking other posters instead of discussing the player, because you have no legitimate points to make.

We need a reasonable base for discussion. Calling his performance "one of the most dominating" is not a reasonable base for discussion; it's lunacy.
