Goes to Michigan and is a RedWings prospect. How awesome is that.

Oh how I wish we had D-1 hockey down here. Hopefully Arizona State is a big step nationwide in that regard.

Disagree. I know the scouts are saying that to lower expectations especially since they called Sheahan our Getzlaf after he was drafted and regretted the pressure it put on him... but Larkin's game is nothing like Kesler's. He's not a gritty agitator who likes to hit. He's a point producer first with a solid all around game. Kesler has a great all around game, but his ceiling was always lower than Larkin/Toews (keep in mind, I'm not equating Larkin to Toews, people who haven't read the whole thread). The Wings expect him to be a Selke guy... but in the Yzerman, post-Bowman mold, not the Draper mold. Larkin is the Wings 1C hope, believe it... or they'll trade Mantha for exactly that since Sheahan is showing he'll be at least a 2C for his career if he doesn't drop off precipitously.

So where do you put him in prospect rankings...top 3? Top 5? Minimum top 3 I would think by your description (not just potential but expectation of a Selke, higher ceiling than Kesler etc)

having only seen him in the u of m highlights, been im pressed. watching the WJC as the 3rd center for usa, hes been great. and tonite gets on the score sheet, in a big way. kid has skills way beyond his draft potenital

he plays like Kesler and looks like him too...pretty wild stuff!

loved this kid from his Belle Tire days...one of the few I called out to have a future correctly!! hahah

I agree. Doesnt have the agitating qualities of Kesler but I see the rest of the game quite a bit.

I'm happy with what I see, the guy has to be one of the best PKing prospects out there and is a one man forechecking force

I've been very impressed with Milano as well.

That kid also has terrific skill.
I've been really underwhelmed with Milano so far but maybe I had too high expectations. The skill is onvious but he's missed at least two clear open nets and screwed up a few more great chances. He also has been outmuscled/out worked quite a bit and looks weak on his stick. It seemed like he turned it on a bit last night after getting a few points so hopefully he keeps up playing with swagger. We really need him to produce if the US is going to go deep.

I feel that hockey has grown so much worldwide that the majority of these kids can succeed in the NHL.

It seems like all those guys skate well and do the little things. Its hard to see the real standout players.

Larkin is more polished for sure.

I still think Milano would have benefitted from going to college. I was commenting more on his raw skill then all around game but admittedly I wasn't watching him closely.

Anyone can win this tourney and that's just awesome.

I thought he was much more dangerous then Eichel against Germany.

Detroit at it again, drafting star players with "lower picks"

I think he will become a "better" player then Virtannen.

Larkin has been nothing short of amazing. He does everything from getting PP time, HUGE and important PK time. Plays when the team needs a goal and scores like a machine. Tenacious on the forecheck and backcheck, strong along the boards... he's got that winner mentality like Toews and Zetterberg.

I'd venture off to say he's easily USA's best player and the reason why they are 3-0. Kid is an absolute stud.

Agreed. And as a Canadian Pens fan, it pains me to say so.

Hard not to love this kid. Pure heart and soul player that can single-handedly help his team to victory on any given night.

Too bad USA lost this game, but in my mind, Larkin was the best player. You could see Canada was targeting him as they tried to charge him every chance they could get. Yet they still couldn't contain him.

He's been Team USA's best player IMO.

Loved him pre-draft. Glad that he's getting love now.
