Larkin was 15th overall.

Detroit drafted him over more exciting prospects like Tuch, Milano, Schmaltz, Fabbri, and Kapanen. I mean, it's not like Larkin for sure is going to be better than all of those players as it's far too early, but it was kind of seen as a boring/safe pick.

actually Larkin was predicted to go around #15 (some had him earlier), alot of scouts/GMs were high on him. i remember during the draft it was reported that Bergevin was trying to move up to just so he could pick Larkin.

To be fair, maybe Larkin would not have been productive if he had been moved up the lines to compete against stronger players?

Im just saying maybe the 3rd line in this instance was better for the team.

USA really isn't doing much line matching from what I've seen. They are rolling all their lines so Larkin is playing against pretty much everyone in the tournament.

Larkin has been nothing short of amazing. He does everything from getting PP time, HUGE and important PK time. Plays when the team needs a goal and scores like a machine. Tenacious on the forecheck and backcheck, strong along the boards... he's got that winner mentality like Toews and Zetterberg.

I'd venture off to say he's easily USA's best player and the reason why they are 3-0. Kid is an absolute stud.

Still funny to see a CENTER of this level marked as a LW on hockey's future and Detroit analyzes are based "weakness on the middle" -phrase.

For example against Canada Eichel was matched regularly against Reinhart and Matthews against McDavid, so that isn't exactly true.

Larkin has been really good, but he has benefitted from the matchupping, no doubt about that. It would have been interesting to see him playing all the time against Reinhart and Nurse.

The only reason he didn't see them that particular game was because Canada didn't have much PP time. They're certainly not shy about putting him out there, considering Larkin/Fasching is the top PK unit. Now, maybe at ES they're playing the matchup game.

Dave nonis tried to move down from 8th overall so he could draft Larkin. He couldn't find a fair deal.

And boy did the Reinhart line burn us. Probably should have matched the Larkin line against the Reinhart line.

I thought Larkin was the best player on the U.S. team this tournament. No slight to Eichel, who also had a great tournament, but Larkin was always making something happen when his line was on the ice. He should be captain of the team next year.

The coach blew it. Larkin should have been moved up as he was the only one who could score on demand. Too busy killing penalties I guess

I thought exactly the same thing. I really think he will outscore Virtannen based on Stats alone, truly another steal for Detroit.

But have to give it to him that he had Eichel to play with too, he too made everyone look dangerous but He was just just a very good player.

Or perhaps Canada was the one trying to match lines? Weren't they the home team that game?

A+ quality Heraldic post on a Wings prospect. Man, I think you're a closet Wings fan since you know so much about all of our guys. :naughty:

He was one player I was hoping the Flyers would select if still there cause he would have looked good in Orange and Black. The Flyers really wanted to move up and pick Ekblad but the cost was too high. Still happy with Sanheim but really wanted Dylan.
