Love Larkin.

From 2014 draft I rank him:

Ekblad

Bennett
Reinhart
Larkin
LD

I think that draft is looking very interesting right now. No doubt Ekblad is #1, and Bennett has a grip on #2 as well, but behind that I think you have a whole group of players that I have a hard time separating: Reinhart, Draisatl, Dal Colle, Larkin, Ehlers and Nylander.

And that's without mentioning someone like Pastrnak.

See I'd put LD ahead of Bennett, but you're right it's a very close crop of players right now.

This is why speaking in absolutes is pretty dumb.

Anyway, for those interested, Larkin beating Zetterberg on the face-off then getting away from his coverage and scoring:

Now this isn't exactly full game pace but Z's definitely not gliding out there either

Between Sheahan and Larkin, Detroit's C depth is set. God I hate/envy their ability to weather the storm and then bounce back as their stars age.

Still need to get a new franchise defenceman from somewhere.

Then we have... kind of everything.

That's unfortunately going to be really freakin hard to do without sucking and getting a high draft pick.

Our best chance may be hoping DeKeyser continues to develop offensively. He had 31 points last season , not too bad.

I think the best chance is to pick up a big name free agent. Detroits foward depth looks too good for me to think they'll bottom out for a number 1 guy in the draft. Keep drafting and developing forwards well and maybe a big trade package as well. They've almost landed Edler and were close on Myers in recent years

Elite centers are even harder to come by and Detroit got Larkin last year...

We were extremely fortunate/lucky to have Larkin develop into what he is today. He's still got a long ways to go too, can't call him an elite center at the moment. The potential is certainly there, however.

Can someone who has seen both Larkin and Colin White play compare them?
They both seem very similar players. I have high hopes for White putting himself on the map just like Larkin.

White is no where near the player Larkin is now.

I know white was injured but Larkin is very quick and has very high top end speed. He can do everything, PK, PP, shutdown opponent top line or score when needed. White kid of runs around with a lot of energy.

He's probably 6'2" 190-200 now and is going to probably fill out to 205 - 210. White isn't going to be that big.

Hopefully Larkin upside is a bigger and faster J Toews type of player . White will most likely not develop into anything near that....most likely, I hope he does though

I wanted the Wings to draft White very badly in this past draft. The two are pretty similar players. Like Larkin, White is also a fantastic skater and posses a fantastic amount of athleticism. He is also like Larkin with his non-stop motor and the way he is always a puck hound. Both players have also displayed a strong commitment to their defensive games and are above their peers in this regard. Where I would say White lags behind Larkin at this point is in stick handling ability and vision in the offensive zone.

So basically Larkin is Jonathan Toews and White is...Colin Greening. Interesting assessment.

Larkin is a pass-first finesse creative playmaking type. His shot isn't really going to do a ton of damage. I see White as more of a grinding shoot-first guy who could score 20 goals with his wrister and willingness to crash around the net. Like people always trot out the Ryan Kesler comparison for Larkin, but I see it much more strongly in White.

These days, Larkin reminds me of Zetterberg. Not as skilled and not as high of hockey sense, but there's a real resemblance.

I hope that White can become the prospect that Larkin is. But I do find it interesting and ecouraging that White seems to have put up same/better stats so far. Anyway, don't want to off topic this and thanks. Larkin is a great player.

I've heard a lot of people saying Larkin's playing style looks a lot like Fedorov's - great speed, skating and east-west movement (they are also the same size). Sounds like a great prospect to me!

They are only set if Sheahan and Larkin both reach their full potential as a 2C and 1C respectively. If they don't reach that, the Wings aren't contending with those two as their top 6 centers.

Svechnikov is a wild card too though.

White wasn't injured he had Mono there is a difference. Also, White is 6'1 193 right now. Not that much smaller. I saw them standing next to each other in Lake Placid. Larkin isn't that much bigger or stronger. Also, White is actually faster. He played with Bracco who slows the game down for 2 years. He had to learn to adjust his speed which will serve him well in the future. He is flat out faster. He was in the top 10 of 5 NHL combine events even with his weight still down from being sick. 2 events he was number one beating even Eichel. Larkin is nowhere near athletic. White is also better on the PK and overall a smarter 200 foot player. Larkin is better offensively at the moment but if White stays healthy he will show what he can do offensively this year. He did put up better numbers at the NTDP over the two years. The past year he sick off and on with mono for 4 months. Larkin is not that far ahead of White at all in any category. I am a huge fan of both but your assessment was not fair at all.

Larkin, Mantha, Nyquist,Tatar, Svechnikov. Detroit building themselves a solid core of forwards while still making the playoffs year after year.

White did battle a wrist injury last year as well if I remember correctly.

I havent seen much of White, but to say he is flat out faster than Larkin seems to be stretching it big time. Larkin is one of the fastest skaters out there, hes the definition of elite skater and will be one of the faster guys in the NHL once he gets there.

White may be faster, but when you read his scouting reports his speed isnt really considered his strong suit. Combined with you saying hes flat out faster (making it sound like its obvious) I'm going to have to disagree with you there

What I saw of White at the development camp. His skating was really good. Powerful smooth strides and excellent agility. Just a really smooth. efficient skater. I'd definitely call skating one of his strengths.

It's hard to find footage on him but from 0:15 to 0:40 you see good examples of how strong his skating is.
