Isn't Dylan Larkin a underager for the AHL next year? If so where does he play if he doesn't make the wings?

He can play in the AHL because he wasnt drafted out of the OHL/Canadian Junior. A college guy who leaves can play AHL. He'll spend next season in the AHL but I think he could get some decent call up time.

As for saying he should've went top 5, thats tough to say and a little early I think. But his offense matching up with his defensive play makes him a potential first line center the wings need badly

Nice to see him score in the big, bad AHL. :D

Its still really early, but this looks like its turning into a fantastic pick. He's done well at every level and in every role he's been used in this season.

Great player - but don't think anyone can argue definitely he's better than Nylander or Ehlers at this point.

I agree with you. I would take him over Nylander right now personally but wouldnt be surprised that other would take Nylander. More personal preference I guess at this point. Ehlers I havent seen enough of either way to really comment on him

As a vc fan watching the ahl playoffs, larkin has been very impressive, more impressive then mantha or pulkkinen which is saying something. He is a quiet and smart player who you dont notice until the pucks in the back of the net and he either scored on the play or set up the goal. Reminds me a bit of monahan in that way.

Nor could one argue other then the absurd hype on here he is worse then either.... He was drafted a few spots behind both players by a fantastic drafting nhl team. Honestly I find it hilarious how protective people are on here of prospects being better at this point, lets wait for a year or two in the nhl before anyone on here waists their breath. Lets just say larkin is in the conversation with those two. Then again it is hfboards...

Detroit is actually really really average with their first round picks

I think they are a little better than average, 4 of the last 10 years they didn't have 1st round picks, Larkin was the earliest pick at 15 and the only one that really missed was a goalie taken 30th overall and they picked Nyquist at #121 in the 4th that year.

Hard to hit home runs in the first round when your highest pick of the last 20 years is number 15... With that being said though it's odd how much better our late rounders seem to be better than our late first rounders with the exception of the last two drafts.

Sorry I should have clarified, they are really really average even factoring where they pick in the first round

Larkin with a bullet on the PP in game 5. 5 points in his first 5 games in the AHL playoffs.

Thanks to win tha game for the gif.

Two things stand out about this goal:

1) Head up the whole way, He is so cerebral

2) He shifts to the point which draws the Pker up high (This is actually a pretty common move). But What I really love here, is how quickly he pounces on the resulting open ice.

The thing about Larkin that is so amazing is that in addition to his physical abilities and his skill, is his hockey IQ.

Here he is, both on the power play, both receiving the puck in the same position on the boards. One is a stunning pass and the other is the aforementioned pounce and shot.
