What I saw of White at the development camp. His skating was really good. Powerful smooth strides and excellent agility. Just a really smooth. efficient skater. I'd definitely call skating one of his strengths.

To be fair, I'm not saying White isnt a great skater. I said he ay even be faster than Larkin but I think calling him a flat out faster player is a pretty big stretch. I wouldnt just call skating a strength for Larkin, I would call him elite. If he makes the NHL he will be one of the top skaters in the league, Larkin is like Helm when he came up with the wings and Helm is one of the fastest guys in the league.

All I'm saying is to call another prospect flat out faster than Larkin doesnt seem right when Larkin will barely have anyone in the NHL that is flat out faster than him

White wasn't injured he had Mono there is a difference. Also, White is 6'1 193 right now. Not that much smaller. I saw them standing next to each other in Lake Placid. Larkin isn't that much bigger or stronger. Also, White is actually faster. He played with Bracco who slows the game down for 2 years. He had to learn to adjust his speed which will serve him well in the future. He is flat out faster. He was in the top 10 of 5 NHL combine events even with his weight still down from being sick. 2 events he was number one beating even Eichel. Larkin is nowhere near athletic. White is also better on the PK and overall a smarter 200 foot player. Larkin is better offensively at the moment but if White stays healthy he will show what he can do offensively this year. He did put up better numbers at the NTDP over the two years. The past year he sick off and on with mono for 4 months. Larkin is not that far ahead of White at all in any category. I am a huge fan of both but your assessment was not fair at all.

Well than it sounds like Ottawa got an elite prospect then. Since White is so much better than Larkin I look forward to him having a better freshman season than Toews and being the go to guy at the U20's. Hell it won't be long before White turns pro and maybe he'll even play at the WC as an 18 year old. If you want to pump up your own prospects go do it somewhere else.

And if your really a scout, you'd know Larkin played behind Eichel every step of the way at the USDP and even at the U20's. As soon as Larkin got away from Eichel he proved himself to be an elite prospect.

If I remember right Larkin likewise destroyed the combine. Including the VO2 max where he actually had to take it twice because of a testing error? Wasn't that Larkin?

Either way hockey IQ especially defensively and pk along with speed are the wrong places to pick on Larkin. If he has him beat there great on him, I seriously doubt it.

Larkin is right there skating wise with Athanasiou and Jensen who are glorious skaters. He is the best skating true top 6 prospect (Athanasiou might wind up there but I wouldn't say that is a given) the Wings have had since Fedorov.

The wings have too much depth, its to the point that it isnt helping the team. Guys like Andersson need to go because the young crop coming up is too good to all hang out in GR for 3 years. I'm not saying Larkin needs to take Anderssons spot in the line up for opening day, but if theres injuries Larkin needs to get NHL games in. The wings would have to have a few injuries before that even happens. I think Larkin would likely make at least 27 or so other teams in the league.

Even after Larkin the wings need to start looking at being able to call up other guys like Bertuzzi who has been amazing the last year and a half, Mantha needs a look in the NHL even for a few games, Athanasiou deserves to play in the NHL and Nosek should probably be on the wings as a defensive center with some punch starting this year.

So who should be moved out? Because clearing out Andersson and Miller only means you can carry two prospects as 13th/14th forwards, granting them a few more NHL games but a lot less games in total. Wings forward depth is probably top 5 in the league so it makes sense it's not easy for these kids to get into the lineup.

Larkin will get his chances. If he proves here in pre-season that he belongs, he'll either start with the Wings (because of injury to Datsyuk and possibly Helm there could be room) or be called up relatively early. AA, Bert and Mantha will all fight for call-ups too, I could see each of them getting a few games in the NHL. Nosek is a bit of a wildcard. Seems NHL ready but hard to say where he would slot in.

Larkin with the homer hatty tonight... two genos and one called back

That disallowed one was really a kind of beauty. Even to try that kind of things. Future Star player.

One of most common discussion at hf boards has been how Detroit Red Wings will survive at Center position after Datsyuk and Zetterberg have retired.

I have seen enough Dylan Larkin to think we now have the answer.

fixed it its everyting after the = sign

that called off goal was sweet and the 2nd allowed goal was a nice set up. The 1st goal was a 5 on 3 with a nice bounce but that called off one was nice all Larkin

I can't wait for all the young forwards to be up with the big club. It's going to be fun.

Larkin, Svechnikov, Athanasiou, Mantha, Pulkkinen, Bertuzzi.

i used to baby sit him back in the day him and his brother and i would play hockey in the driveway and ministicks in his basement glad to see him putting it all together and improving on every level hes played

Kronwall saying Lil Bert has impressed him most.

May just be a matter of expectations vs. performance. Larkin went in with much, much higher expectations. He's met them but the difference between expectations vs. performance is smaller than with Bertuzzi.

The wings are literally the only team that would think about playing Larkin in the AHL. I think winning the matchup against Crosby tonight has played himself onto the team though, time to trade some redundant pieces for Holland and put Larkin in the line up.

I cant believe he just turned 19

And the Red Wings are routinely touted as one of, if not, the best teams at drafting and developing in all of pro sports. Maybe they know what they're doing.

You make long playoff and championships with guys like Dylan Larkin. Rookies and young players that come in with their ELCs and potentially tear it up. We always get to the trade deadline and wonder what pieces could put us over the top. Just play the talent you already have. The fact that Jurco, Andersson, and Miller probably have the advantage on Larkin right now is mind boggling.

I would rather have Larkin play against bottom 6 and bottom pairing defenses in the NHL than top 6 AHLers.

I don't think they do. At least not Miller and Andersson. But someone has be the 13th/14th forwards and Holland will always try to avoid carrying kids in those slot. If Larkin breaks into the NHL lineup, one of Miller/Andersson/Ferraro is a likely candidate to be moved out to make room.
