Bump

Anyone know how he's been doing this year. Has he struggled, has he been doing well?

Zürich is the top of the food chain in Swiss NLA. It's really difficult to get minutes for a 17 years old kid. It's like a top AHL team. With Noranda he would be higher on the draft. Magic hands but huge handicap on Height. Needs to play in top-6 in order to get a career in NHL.

LNB 24 games 6 goals 6 assists 12 points
LNA 33 games 4 goals 7 assists 11 points (playoffs included)

Swiss U-20 team 16 games 7 goals 9 assists 16 points

He's doing really well.

Too bad he didn't go to NA because he definitely lacks exposure over here.

What is this guy's potential?

2nd line centre? Top 6 forward material?

From his potential and skills, I would say he is a 1st/2nd rounder. But his size/strength is a big issue. Considering that NHL teams dont like to draft players with this size very early i would say he might be a 3rd or 4th rounder. He can be a dominant player in Europe but I am not sure if he will ever get a chance to play in NA and if he would success over there....In my eyes he is really hard to project. But definitely this kid has a lot of talent and showed also in the highest Swiss league he is able to play an important role already now. What you guys think?

I get the same feeling watching Malgin that I did watching Dano in his draft year, that he will get slept on for his size but will be a player. Dano snuck into the first which I don't see happening for Malgin, but I could see him possibly sneak into the top 60. Hope the Ducks take him. I've come away impressed every time I've watched him.

Malgin is so talented and a treat to watch, but size really is a big concern right now. According to eliteprospects, his dad and brother are both 180cm so he could still grow some more. If he does, the return to whatever team drafts him will be huge.

He checked that with the doctor (you can measure anything in your bone to tell how tall you'll get) and they said he probably will get around 180cm.

With 10cm more he'd be a first-rounder.

I like this kid. Very Patty Kane esque.

As a sidebar, Darth Malgin sounds like a good name for a Sith lord.

I couldnt help but think Viktor Arivdsson when watching this guy at the U18s. He had the puck all game, looked like an offensive force - but I will not be surprised to see him slip because his lack of size. I would take him in the 2nd though. He looked like the Swiss's best player by a fair amount.

Craig Button as raving about this guy, saying he wouldn't be remotely surprised if he slipped into the first round. Man, as a Calgary fan seeing how effective Tyler Johnson and Johnny Gaudreau can be, I hate not having a pick between 15 and 45 :help:

He was amazing during their playoff run, wondering how he'll translate his game to NA ice, but his skillset is amazing.
Needs to bulk up a bit.

I know he was taken in the CHL import draft last year, and there were rumors that he wanted to stay in Switzerland so the AHL would be an option next year. Has there been any new info about him coming to NA next year?

Very curious about Malgin but can't get any video of him and also can't find many players drafted out of NLA to get an idea on how good his numbers are for a draft elligible (except Noah Rod but he isn't seen as an offensive guy). How impressive are his numbers in the NLA (which I'm assuming is a little under SEL and Liiga)?

The only real comparisons you can make are to Nino Niederreiter and Sven Baertschi and Malgin put up better numbers than they did, a year younger than them. Neither played in the NLA in their draft year, (but the WHL). However Baertschi saw time in the NLB (and Malgin's numbers as a 17 year old beat Baertschi's as an 18 year old), and Niederreiter's numbers in the Elite Jr. A league as a 17 year old compare to the numbers Malgin put up in the same league as a 16 year old.

Needless to say, Malgin might be the most talented young forward the Swiss have produced.

Sweet, thanks! Was having trouble finding NHLers who played in the NLA before being drafted
