I'm really surprised they sent him down in the middle of the roadtrip, but it was the right choice and would've been done months ago without the injury troubles to other players.

Malgin has played in 39 out of 47 total games, so it's not that bad as people are making it out to be. However, it is true that his minutes have gone down, especially after Rowe took over. But then again, the entire bottom6 gets very limited minutes, so it's not just Malgin getting singled out.

The team is on a long roadtrip (around 9 days or so), so I doubt they send him to the minors in the middle of that. They'll travel back to Florida on the 24th, I think.

Totally agree with the 1st paragraph. People are making it seem like he was doing nothing in Florida except practicing. He was playing a lot at the start of the year and he was used in the PP even when Rowe came. He played at center and on the wing. He got a lot of valuable learning experience and now he's back down to the AHL to build on it.

Injuries kept him up longer than he should have been, and Rowe wasn't so beneficial for his development. But I truly believe the little taste of the NHL, especially at a young age is beneficial for a player. He knows what it takes to be a player now at the next level. Go work on that in the AHL.

Wasn't he just under a ppg in the A?
He has, but he was not tearing it up, so to say. That being said, my guess is that he's probably a lock for next year and they want him to train with the team as much as possible so that he feels like his place is in the big league. Pretty sure he's the first guy to jump in a case of injury too.

Jared McCann and Jayce Hawryluk are top offensive prospects.

Neither of whom r good ahl producers.. there's just no offensive talent in Springfield... malgin should stay they next year with McCann and jayce and see if they can produce a bit more before trying to be used in NHL in an offensive role

I like them both, but they still aren't top offensive threats in the AHL, yet anyways.
I guess you could make a case for Jayce at the moment, but McCann certainly doesn't scare AHL teams.

Neither does Malgin. My point is that he has other talented players that have a similar if not better skill set to Malgin. They are not top offensive prospects in a general way. But they are top offensive prospects relative to Malgin's skill set.

Personally I think Malgin has the highest offensive potential of the 3. I've seen tons of McCann and he lacks the playmaking ability & vision Malgin has. Can't speak much for Hawryluk as I've only had limited viewings but he still doesn't strike me as a much better offensive prospect compared to Denis.

If it was just 2 scratches after a sound year of development last year, then it would be OK.

The way they handled him last year was puzzling to say the least as documented throughout this thread.

I think the sentiment is compounded because he was used this way all of year last year as well. He's a talented young player that needs games.

Last year was complicated because of all the injuries we had (Huberdeau, Bjugstad, Barkov). Ideally Malgin should have spent most of the year in the AHL, but we lacked 2-3 players from our top 9 and he was the most ready replacement.
I completely agree he needs playing time for his developement, but right now it's just two games. If he's still sitting in the pressbox two weeks from now, then I'd start to worry.
