He's got goals in 2 straight, points in 3 straight. Looks fantastic out there, seems like he's getting more and more opportunities to create offensively.

Strikes me as the type of player who will get better and better as the season goes on. He's gonna be a whale of a player IMO.

Very glad I snagged this guy in my keeper league in '15. He's barely playing any minutes but is still productive.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Bjugstad comes back next week. Someone has to move to the wing, I suspect it will be Malgin.

He was very noticeable both games against the Devils, looks like he'll be a great player down the road!

will he stick once Bjugstad and Huberdeau are back?
Hard to say, basically we have two precedents on how Gallant has managed center to wing moves.

1) Trocheck, who got bounced around from center to wing to center to wing depending on who was injured and slumping for a good 2 years until he solidified his spot as a center.

2) Bjugstad, who everyone has been begging to be tried at wing because his hockey IQ isn't that great for a center and he isn't much of a playmaker, but he's stuck as a center no matter what has happened. There's been times where he's played hurt and Gallant still didn't move him to wing.

My view is that since Malgin has been playing with another center (McCann), but Gallant hasn't switched them around even when the line was playing really poorly, it looks like Gallant wants Malgin to play center (or the other way around, wants McCann to play wing). Then when you consider in that Bjugstad hasn't played wing before, Malgin is probably the one headed to the AHL I think.

I'll preface this by saying I'm only really looking at points but why wouldnt McCann be the one demoted? No points in 10 games and since he's 20, he can be sent to the AHL which could actually be good for him (allow him to get back to playing center too).

I would think if they tried Trocheck at wing quite a bit, that they can do the same with Malgin when Bjugstad returns. Eventually it would likely be that Malgin gets sent to AHL too, not unlike Trocheck spent time in AHL as well. Cant hurt a young player that much to play in a more physical league like AHL.

Rau should be the first one sent down imo.

My whole point was that Gallant may not want to play Malgin at wing. If that's the case, then it won't matter how meh McCann has been so far. Bjugstad is a perfect example of how stubborn Gallant can be.

McCann is getting sent down if we have a fully healthy line-up (when Huberdeau gets back) anyway.

Understood but if they tried Trocheck at wing, why not give Malgin a shot there too if they're resistant to moving Bjugstad to wing. Dont understand why they wouldnt want to play Bjugstad on the wing when he has a good goalscoring instincts, could turn him into another Blake Wheeler type of player. But thats obviously a sore point for you guys.

Why not send down McCann now when he could benefit from extra playing time and maybe get his offense going by playing in the AHL? Then call him back up later (say when Huberdeau returns) and send Malgin back then. I wouldnt expect Malgin to keep up the current pace anyway so he'll probably get send down at some point.

Because Gallant reasons.

I'm one of several people asking for Bjugstad on the wing.

My long-term wish is Huberdeau-Barkov-Bjugstad.

I think Malgin with Marchessault would be a hell of a line-up.

been playing real well lately. All Panther fans have been ranting and raving about the guy. Not really talked about much on here due to playing on a team with a quiet fan base on this site, but he is at 4 goals and 3 assists in 16 games so far.

quietly putting up good numbers in his last 8 games... 6 points, +4, 12 SOG in those games... People need to start taking notice of this 19 year old and generate more talk!!!

Bjugstad is coming back to the line-up tonight and looks like he's playing RW with Sceviour (LW) and Malgin.

Pleasantly surprised by Gallant finally deciding to experiment Bjugstad as a winger.

Florida is authoring a 'how not to develop a talented prospect' book with their handling of this kid.

No points since November 17th.

Frequent scratch of late.

Barely playing any minutes when he is in the lineup.

Just send him to the AHL or back to Europe already.

We have kind of been forced to play him this year with all the injuries, he was a sure AHL bound player without injuries.

His development should be more important than that.
Let some other AHL vet sit in the press box while Malgin plays 1st line minutes in the AHL.
Reminds Puljus situation.

While you might value the player, we value the team. And at this moment, his up and down call ups are whats best for the team.

Build for the future and just say this isn't Floridas year.

Let Malgin play and be a player for the team next year rather than try to save this season and mess with his development.

So shortsighted. You don't think a well developed player will help this franchise more in the future? Plus, he sits because he wasn't enough of an impact factor so he obviously wasn't helping the team, it makes no sense.

I would think most Panthers fans would agree that his place is in the AHL (and has been that way for a few months now), but the injuries + lack of better options to recall from the AHL are what has kept him from getting sent down. Hopefully soon when Bjugstad and Barkov are fit to return, they'll keep Sgarbossa/Griffith as the warm body and send Malgin to Springfield.

It doesn't really matter who get's healthy scratched, other AHL players could do this as well. Being forced to stay up and play because of no other options is one thing, not playing yet still being forced to stay is another thing. It is what it is though and it will soon look better for Malgin hopefully.

Is it though in the big picture? Wouldn't it be better for the team to develop him into a quality player?

Malgin has played in 39 out of 47 total games, so it's not that bad as people are making it out to be. However, it is true that his minutes have gone down, especially after Rowe took over. But then again, the entire bottom6 gets very limited minutes, so it's not just Malgin getting singled out.

The team is on a long roadtrip (around 9 days or so), so I doubt they send him to the minors in the middle of that. They'll travel back to Florida on the 24th, I think.
